The Bottom Line CD's are safe and secure, but do not yield extremely high rates of return.

CD's or Certificate of Deposits are investments that tie up your money for a period of time, and yield generally slightly better than usual interest.

The comments listed next are the usual case, and are generally true. See your personal financial institution for specifics.

1. The longer the term of your CD, the higher your interest rate and the less total money required to obtain your CD.

2. The shorter the term of your CD, the lower the rate and the higher your investment outlay.

CD's are safe and solid investments. They are NOT spectacular in their investment return, but should be part of an overall financial portfolio.
