Freestar (Reply to this comment)

The new name seems to suggest both "freedom" and "star," as, perhaps, in the American flag. The name seems to me to be an attempt by Ford to capitalize on post-911 Americas renewed patriotism. It suggests that, by buying this van, you are both free and very patriotic. That's just my two cents though.

the Festiva, Falcon, and Fairlane names, I wonder?

Re: Windstar Comparison (Reply to this comment)

I haven't driven a Windstar in years. If my memory is accurate, the new engine is quieter and more refined, but it's still far from matching the Honda and Toyota sixes.
I remember the Windstar actually handling better. The Freestar felt considerably bulkier than I remember the Windstar feeling.
The MPV is a different vehicle entirely. Much smaller and more agile, though I did not care for its steering.

Windstar Comparison (Reply to this comment)
by slbenz
Mkaresh,
How do you feel the new Freestar compares to the previous Windstar and current MPV in regards to handling? I had a 1999 Windstar which was very unreliable and sold it for a 2003 Mazda MPV and reviewed both for Epinions. Also, from your description the engine still sounds unrefined when revved just like my Windstar. Thanks again for a well written review.
