Pros: Excellent Single player campaign, engrossing storyline, unique undead race, runs very smooth on low specs.
Cons: Slightly repetitive Multiplayer, dull sounds,Merely average graphics.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend wc-3 to Fans of fantasy settings and fantasy RTS games and RTS fans in general. Its not everyone cup of tea but its still good.

| soadfan1's Full Review: WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos |
As an avid RTS fan it was obvious that in the end I would at some point play warcraft 3. After it received storming reviews from many big name reviewers I decided It was time to see what all the fuss was about.
From start to finish Warcraft 3's single player is a time consuming excellently crafted monster of a campaign, that takes the experienced RTS gamer at least a month to complete.
The story takes 4 different views for the 4 different races.
Human, Undead, Orc, and Night Elf.
Each spanning around 8-9 missions, its a huge and taxing campaign that may at times l;eave you frustrated, but it injects a toughness that is enjoyable, Much Like Red alert 1 did in 96.
There is a whopping great engrossing storyline to accompany it that is straight out of Middle Earth. Some of it may be a bit cliche but its still engrossing, has many twists and is excellent for a game.
Warcraft 3 includes elements of rpg in its gamestyle what with Heroes and hero abilities and abilities in general, these add to the excitement and help flavour the gameplay.
However Warcraft 3 suffers from some tepid race diversity.
In the end youll realise that besides the undead race all the orc human and elf units are just the same type of units names changed. Ie, Man with pointy stick named a legion is the same as man with pointy stick named Troll.
Also you will find yourself massing most of the same 2 or 3 types of units to win.
Multiplayer is in my opinion wc-3's weak point although many will disagree. Technically Blizzard have created a great game interface and technical wise, it will run smooth on a 56k in anything up to 12 player games, good news for those who are stuck in the land of No broadband.
Wc-3 introduces units called 'Creeps', these are usually in groups of 3-6 and are arbitrary creatures like Bears,Spiders, Dinosaurs or Trolls.
This was designed to cut out the Rushing in games, but has created its own problem known as creeping, whereby players will just Kill as many creeps as possible early game to make their Hero get to a high level and Gernerally the Hero with the highest level wins.
This tends to make mutliplayer repetitive and boring.
Graphics in Warcraft 3 are functional and cartoonish, rarely impressive, but not dated all the same. the 3d aspect rarely gets used... its always much better to stick to the traditional view.
Sound is average, again nothing special here, seems no RTS game has ever been able to complete with Red alert or the original c&c in terms of music and sound, we get some ghostly often operatic themes to the levels, adds some atomosphere but nothing your ever going to be downloading off the net(Hell March anyone?).
So in conclusion.
If you after a excellent single player campaign, are into fantasy settings and like a bit of rpg element you cant go far wrong with Warcraft 3: Reign Of Chaos. I found it a wholly engrossing single experience. Its also great if you have a lower spec machine especially for those with 56k's.
If however youre more like me and like faster paced Modern warfare with cutting edge graphics and more of a mutliplay rather then single player you would do better to plump for Command and conquer Generals, them games are both the completel opoosites of each other so whichever tickles your pickle... but I think even if your a c&c fan you will enjoy wc-3 for a while, Just like I did.
