This is one GE appliance that I wouldn't trade for anything
We have owned two Brand New homes (by the same developer) in the last 6 years. Both homes have been fully stocked with all General Electric Appliances. I am not sure if it is because GE is the developers brand of choice for appliances or if they had some sort of deal with GE, but either way, I have had plenty of experience with the General Electric Brand for appliances during this time.
GE Build in Dishwasher
I have used my GE Built in Dishwasher for almost a year now. I absolutely love it. The style, the size, the effectiveness... EVERYTHING.... I don't have one complain about it. It has been a wonderful appliance.
Style
This dishwasher is very simple yet elegant looking. It is White on White with Gray lettering. It looks very modern and is a stylish addition to my kitchen.
Size
Although I was just as happy with the quality of my last GE Dishwasher, this dishwasher has some things that I like so much more.
A larger capacity is one of those things. This new roomier model allows for many taller objects such as Pans, Drink Pictures, Thermoses and Vases to fit nicely in the bottom rack with out hitting the top. (I also notice that I can fit 1/4 more dishes into this model, than I could the last, which not only saves time, but water and electricity as well.)
Controls
This dishwasher is very easy to operate without a bunch of "extra" buttons that many dishwashers have, just to make them look like they do more.
To the left of the Control panel you chose which Cycle and which Energy Option you would like.
Cycle
•Pot Scrubber- This setting is for pots, pans and other items that have a bit more normal caked on food, etc... than a normal load. I find this setting really helpful to wash the pieces of the top of my stove. (The grills, etc....) They always come out sparkling clean and takes all the hard work away from me having to do it! : )
•Normal Wash- For all other washes.
Energy Options
•High Temperature Wash (On/Off)- To save on electricity, I usually keep this setting on off for most washes. This dishwasher works effectively enough that this setting is fine. (I do however, use the higher temperature when I washing things in the Pot Scrubber Cycle to get the most effective power for those hard to get clean items. The higher temperature aids in this.)
•Heated Dry (On/Off)
This feature has been the most helpful to us recently. We life in California and during the power crunch we have recently been experiencing, having this setting has been wonderful. I have just kept it off and let my dishes drip dry when they are done with a wash cycle. This saves a lot of energy.
Then to the right of the control panel is the Wash Dial. It is listed all the way around the dial on a timer, so that you can see what stage your wash is at.
•Off
•Start
•Short Wash (I haven't used the short wash yet to really be able to say how effective it is. I usually always fill my dishwasher FULL and run a complete cycle.)
•Rinse & Hold (This is for when the heated dry is off)
•Plate Warmer (This is for when the heated dry is on)
Rinse Agent
This dishwasher model comes with the ability to add a rinse agent to your wash. (The purpose of this is to remove spots and prevent build up on your dishes.)
GE suggest in their users guide to use Jet Dry Rinse Agent, but I prefer Cascade and it works just the same. The dispenser is located directly next the (detergent dispenser). Simply unscrew the cap and add one whole bottle of Rinse Agent inside and re-screw on the lid.
To check if you need to refill the rinse agent either open the lid and look inside or use the lids build in indicator. Push on the plastic portion of the lid and if you see the rinse aid come up into the lid, you know that you still have plenty. If after pushing the lid nothing comes up, that means it is time to add more. (I usually have to fill it once a month.)
That is it in a nutshell! : ) I have been very pleased with my Built in General Electric Dishwasher. It is everything that I could possibly ever want in a dishwasher and more.
Make sure you stop by and take a look at this GE model if you are out shopping for a new dishwasher, it will be worth your time.
