I have been playing around with the thought of buying a gaming console some time this year. While the PS 2 sounds very good, your review has opened my eyes to its compatability problems with some PS 1 games and DVD movies.
I will now definitely wait for Microsoft's X-box and Nintendo's new console and compare the three before I make my final decision.

My nephew's doesn't work properly. You are so right about renting first as now he must go through the problems of taking back his DVD's but I doubt he'll be able to.
