| johnmeyer's Full Review: LNT Home Corkscrew Corkscrew With Foil Cutter |
Not too many years ago Leverpull-style wine bottle openers routinely sold for $150 or more. Recently, the market has been flooded with inexpensive knock-offs. Some of these use plastic handles and inferior parts. Many sites are full of reports of these openers coming apart after opening just a few bottles.
This product is not one of these cheap knock-offs. It is made of sturdy metal parts and, as a result, has quite a heft. It comes with a replacement Teflon corkscrew and also has a very nice foil cutter.
I have used the $150 Leverpull openers, and this looks and feels identical to those, and works exactly as well.
The only caveat -- and this applies to any opener of this type -- is that you should not use it on either artificial corks or on corks sealed at the top with wax. Either material will tend to foul the Teflon coating and make it much harder to penetrate the next cork that you open.
I have opened more bottles with this opener than I care to admit (O.K., probably 50-75 bottles), and it works just as well now as when I first received it as a gift some months ago.
