When I first got my computer two years ago, I had a lot of problems with it. It crashed several times and it turned out the hard drive was faulty. After the hard drive was replaced, I decided to get the Iomega 250 MB Zip drive. I am happy I did. No more losing important files or data. Now I save it all on a zip disk.
The 250 MB drive is sleek and compact. It can lay down or stand upright on a stand (included). This is perfect for those who have cluttered desks. Because it is small, you can take it with you to work as a laptop companion.
The disks for this drive have a large memory capacity. While text documents are often not that large, documents with pictures or diagrams(like photographs, charts, graphs, etc.) take up a great deal of memory. These disks are perfect for that. You don't even have to save work files on these disks. You can use them to prepare digital photo albums or music playlists. You can give everyone in the family their own disk. For MP3 files, the disks may be able to hold about 15 songs or so, depending on their length.
This drive was very easy to install. Within 10 minutes I had it working on my computer. It also transfers files very quickly. Within minutes you can save large files on to a zip disk. You use it just as you use other drives on your computer.
Another benefit of this drive is that it accepts both 100 and 250 MB disks. This is helpful if you want to transfer files to another computer that does not have a 250 MB drive. I save my files once a month and I never worry about losing them.
There are two reasons why the 250 MB disks are helpful. First, computers are made with such large hard drives now and files are becoming bigger and bigger to back up. 250 MB zip disks are big enough to help you back up many data files. The second reason is that they are rewritable. If you have a CD writer, you can only burn the CDs once and you cannot change the data on them. Often you may make "frisbees" if the CDs aren't exactly what you want. Keep in mind that zip disk are just like floppies in that they are magnetic. Therefore, sometimes they "go bad." That's why I only use them for back up and I always have another copy of things I really need on my computer.
Also, just like any piece of electrical equipment, this can have problems. Rarely there is a "lemon" that will not read disks. However, hopefully you will find this out within the first month or two and your company will replace it with no problem.
The downside of this drive is that the disks are expensive, costing $12-15 a piece! You can get good deals at jandr.com for disks and even at staples.com. You can also get a good deal on a drive at mwave.com. These sites are reliable, with good communication and return policies and they either have coupons or great deals.
