The Bottom Line Breaking in your glove..the succinct.
Baseball. How I love baseball. Those endless summers, trading baseball cards with kids in the neighborhood--Bronx. This is the greatest game that has ever been. I miss Yankee stadium and the raucous yells, and the beer man...yeah the beer man with his annoying siren call. "Get your beer, here !!!". The House that Ruth Built is now the palace of Derek Jeter, one of Yankee's finest. Whatever happened to Irabu? Anyway, rather than rambling incoherently, let's get straight to the point. How does one break in a leather baseball glove? This is a burning issue for many, especially for fanatical baseball fans who are obsessive about details. Here are some helpful tips to keeping the glove in optimal condition. 1. Frequency of use is important. Keep using your glove often whether on the field or off. Start throwing the ball around with your friends in the backyard. 2. Rub the pocket linings of the glove with the following ingredients--linseed oil, saddle soap, or shaving cream. This will help soften the pocket and keep your glove well-formed. 3. Don't throw the glove into the dryer when it's wet!!!! Allow the glove to dry on its own. Don't put it near the heater or blow dry it. The glove will crack. 4. Place a baseball in the glove pocket when you are not using it and wrap with a rubber band. This will allow the glove to develop a natural pocket. So have these ingredients on hand: saddle soap, baseball, baseball glove conditioner, linseed oil, rubber bands...and you are ready to go. Now, this advice is not simply restrictive to fielding gloves, you can also use these tips for catchers as well... Good luck...and Take me to the ball game. This is not meant to be overly detailed, so don't grade me down on this one...How much can you write on breaking in a new glove anyway without sounding overly verbose? |
