I used PriceGrabber.com for the first time a couple of weeks ago and have used it again now that I found it! The first time I used it I knew exactly what I was looking for so I just put the CD player’s name in my browser and saw an ad for PriceGrabber.com. I clicked it on and saw a list of merchants who sell that player and how much they were selling it for. I bought it for $16.00 less than my daughter did thanks to this site.
What is PriceGrabber?
PriceGrabber is just what it sounds like. It works as a broker or intermediary between you and merchants to find the best price for the item you want. The site at first looks intimidating if you are just browsing, but once you see that it is set up logically you should have no problems.
The site has 14 main categories from books to toys. You can look for products by clicking on either the title, such as Books, which will brink you to a page with all the subtopics or just go to a subtopic from home. Each topic gives you the 5 most popular products in that category and shows you the lowest price of each of those 5. For example going to Electronics and Photography I can see that one of the 5 most popular items is PowerShot A70 Digital Camera and that the lowest price that Price
Grabber can find is $240.
On this site you can search for products in the search box, compare products, read reviews and even sell your own things. You will find merchant ratings, gift cards and a holiday shopping guide. I really like the option of seeing how the merchants are rated. When I ordered the CD player I had never heard of the company from which I bought it but was glad that it had a good rating. I felt comfortable ordering from them and have received the item.
More recently looking for a digital camera I typed in what I was looking for (or if I didn’t know I could search or browse). The pages loads quickly and I was shown 61 listings.
You will be shown the price, tax and shipping but then you will be shown the bottom line price so you don’t have to do the math. You will even be shown in red what the best price is. Be careful, though, especially in a category such as this. The best price is for a refurbished item and you may not want a refurbished product.
I found it especially useful because I now know I can see the camera at a few local stores but I will buy it online where it is less expensive. I know for a fact, for example, that Target is selling the camera I want for the price listed at PriceGrabber. I can buy it for $100 less online. I would not have known that otherwise.
Under each merchant’s name is a link for merchant info such as payment and shipping methods. Each merchant has a “see it” link where you will see the product and make sure they are selling what you want! You can also get shipping quotes from this page as well. The site will also allow you to search by manufacturer and minimum and maximum prices you want to spend.
My experience:
Once I chose the merchant, which in this case was the least expensive, PriceGrabber.com is finished with its work. My experience was directly through the merchant (ABT Electronics). I paid for it through them, received confirmation e-mails through them and was sent tracking information through ABT. I can now rate the merchant highly.
I can truly say that I can’t imagine buying anything online without checking at PriceGrabber.com to see what prices they find for me. It takes just a moment if you know what you want and if you don’t, it will take as long as you want to browse through the items.
The site is easy to use. My experience with my CD player was perfect and my search for a digital camera has been extremely helpful through this site.
