| famieamy's Full Review: Salton iCEBOX IBCT1 9 in. TV/DVD Combo |
The Icebox is a 9 inch TV/dvd/cd/internet combo that cost me $143 at overstock.com. Also if you have a video cam, you can hook it up and the tv will act as a security monitor. I thought it was a cheap, neat way to get internet access because where our computer is located it's hard for the younger kids to gets online so I figured I'd get this for them instead of purchasing a 2nd computer.
The description plainly says that if you have dial up internet access (it only accepts dial up) you can get right on the internet. Well when I recieved the icebox I got it all hooked up and called the 800 number to get the internet set up on it and they told me my ISP wasn't compatable? Needless to say, I was very mad since all it says you have to have is a dial up connection. They failed to mention that MSN, AOL, ect dial ups are not compatable. If I would have known this beforehand, I surely would not of purchased it. They need to add more details on the product because the one they left out I find is a very important aspect to know.
Another downfall to this product is that when you put in a DVD or CD, the machine makes a loud powered noise which I didn't like as well.
Some positives about the combo is that the keyboard and remote are washable, wireless, and shock proof. The Tv also seems to made of good quality materials since it has a good weight to it. This device also comes with everything you need to get started, such as: An antenna, phone cord, phone line splitter, AC power cord, keyboard, remote, insturction manual, and also a CD you can watch that gives you more info on the system. From what I've seen, it does have good picture quality for the price. The tv is also cable ready.
I do not know much about how the internet is on it, since I was unable to connect to it. Needless to say I sent this product back since the main purpose was the internet. Also the product has a customer service line to help assist you if you have any problems or questions. From my experience, they seem like they don't even want to help you. The woman I spoke to acted like she didn't want to be talking to me and just wanted to get off asap. For that I'd say they don't have very good customer service reps.
Sure this product seems neat and looks cute, but it is not worth it in my opinion. You better make sure you have a compatable ISP before you purchase, I highly reccommend this. Otherwise its gonna be alot of trouble. Or if you don't care about getting the internet, it would make a great kitchen or kids room tv since it is small and portable.
