| david_aaron236's Full Review: 1985 Chrysler LeBaron |
One day when I was looking through the Money Saver, which is a little paper that people around my area advertise stuff in, I found a little 3 line advertisment for a 1985 chrysler lebaron. The ad said that it ran great and only had 142,000 miles on it. I needed a second car to go to and from work so I called up and the guy and he told me all about the car and how he had just bought a new one and no longer needed this one and that he would sell it to me for $400! It was around 6:00 or 6:30 at night and i could not wait till tomorrow to go see it, so i asked the guy if we could come and take a look at it, and he said that it would be fine. While on the way there, I had grown skeptical about the car. I had now idea what it would look like or if it would even last more than a week. When I got there I was totally surprised. In the guy's front lawn sat this little two door brown car with a "for sale" sign in the window. I couldn't believe that this was for sale for only four-hundred dollars. That was before I even heard it running. After about 10 minutes of the guy showing me every part of the car I bought it. I had my two son's with me and my wife so she could drive our other car home. My oldest son thought that this car was so good. He drove home in it with me, and he thought it was so awesome. He calls it the "brownie" and now we use it more than our other car, the 1995 ford contour. The car is awesome for it's age (and price). It has power windows (which are no longer very powerful, they both seem to be off the track thing, and one of them has been broken out since I rolled it all the way down and it got stuck about half way up). The car also has a tilt steering wheel, a/c, and cruise control. The little four cylinder engine is fairly powerful with good acceleration. The speedometer goes up to 85 mph, and I've had it going about 75 without much trouble. This car is also more reliable than our other car, which I'm afraid is going to die on me sometime within the near future. The most annoying thing on this car is this ticking sound that comes from the speedometer after you get going, i don't know what causes it, but i know it's not from the engine. But overral this car is awesome. Anyone should buy one if they get the chance.
Alright, I wanted to add some things to this. Mostly about the mechanics of the car itself. I got a request by someone about four months ago to add info like how the car rides, brakes, steers and stuff like that. Well I just read the comment a few days ago and I thought even though it's a little late that I might as well add the info anyway. So here it is:
The Brakes
The brakes on the car are very good. Sometimes they seem too good, as the slightest amount of pressure on the brake peddle slows the car down quickly. I haven't needed to use any brake fluid in it, it seems.
The Ride
The car has pretty good shocks for it's age as it has had no known repairs to the shocks. The shocks do pretty good when it comes to reduceing the "shock" caused by driving on some of the terrible roads up here in Maine. The car also has good ground clearance for a car of it's type, at least has 3-4 inches higher than the Ford Contour of mine.
Handling
The car handles very good. It has an excellent power steering system. The only thing wrong with the steering that I need to get fixed soon is the front end alignment which right now makes the car go a little to the right. The only thing that caused this is the bad condition of the roads up here in Maine, the ones I drive on are horrible in places, filled with pot-holes.
Final Thoughts
This is a great car well worth the $400 I paid for it. I think if I sold it I could get close to $1000 for it. Everything in the car works great except for the radio! It was working great when I first got it but after the first two to three months it started cutting in and out until it completely died a few weeks ago. The weird thing is that the display on the radio works. The radio doubles as a clock and the clock part works still. Also up until a week ago if you turned the knob to turn on the radio the channel display comes up and it still seemed like the radio is getting a signal, as the radio's stereo symbol come's on and off while I go through areas where the signal goes in and comes out. I took the radio out but didn't try to unplug any wires, I just pulled it out a few inches and everything was plugged in so i put it back in and now the clock still works but when you turn on the radio this light in the top right of the display comes up and says NR. I still haven't figured out what this means but when I pulled it out I think I might of pulled out some wire that was already loose but I didn't hear anything come loose, so I don't know. Anyway, this is the end of my updated review on my 1985 Chrysler LeBaron. Hope it helps~!
