| sblaydes's Full Review: Glad Press'N Seal Wrap |
In the past I have had a hate/love relationship with plastic wrap. While I love the fact that I dont have to go searching for lids to my plastics container when I use plastic wrap I hate (hate) the fact that whenever I try to rip off a piece it bunches up on me. So yes, I start all over having wasted a piece of plastic wrap in trying to rip off the perfect piece to fit my plastic container. So, when I first spotted the television advertisement for Glad Press'N Seal Wrap, I was a bit intrigued. Could this plastic wrap really work better than what I have used in the past?
Ill admit that I did forget about the new Glad PressN Seal Wrap until a coupon arrived in my Sunday newspaper. Call me a sucker for a coupon, but for a $1.00 off
I was ready to search for this new plastic wrap the next time I went shopping. (By the way, you havent found a coupon in your local paper go visit their web site and take advantage of Glads $1.00 mail in rebate.)
~ Its new! Nouveau! Nuevo! ~
Spotting this mostly bright yellow box of Glad PressN Seal Wrap on the shelves at Wal-Mart was easy enough. While it comes in the same shaped box as other plastic wraps or aluminum foil the bright blue letters PressM Seal are easy to spot. So are the letters written above in yellow letting you know that this is a new product. (New! Nouveau! Nuevo!) On the backside of this box are easy to follow directions on how to use this plastic wrap, along with coordinating drawings.
~ So, what is it like? ~
When I opened up my package of Glad PressN Seal Wrap I was so happy to find that it was not your ordinary plastic wrap. I almost felt as if I was doing the Charmin test because I found myself squeezing this wrap because of its soft texture. When you pull a portion of the Glad PressN Seal Wrap out of the box you will notice that it is mostly clear in color. Actually, I would say that it looks like it has a light frost on it. So that you know which is the top and which is the bottom of this plastic wrap, this plastic wrap features some designs on the top of it. (In the form of the word Glad written about and a small design of the PressN Seal feature.) You will also quickly be able to figure out which is the bottom because it does have a bit of tacky feel to it. After looking at the Glad PressN Seal Wrap web site I can only assume that this must be the Griptex technology that they are referring to. Griptex technology allows Glad Press 'n Seal wrap to seal to plastic, paper, Styrofoam® containers, metal, wood and many other surfaces.**
This box of Glad PressN Seal Wrap contains 75 square feet (6.96 m) of plastic wrap. I am currently still using the first box I purchased. Since I no longer have the problem of wasted plastic wrap I have found this box to last longer than previous brands. That is a another feature I really like!
~ How does it work? ~
Using the Glad Pressn Seal Wrap is relatively simple. (I will get into the relative part in a few minutes.) There are three simple steps that are nicely illustrated on the backside of the box and on the glad web site. They are:
1. Pull the wrap with the design side up.** (You should have no problems in figuring out which side is up or down with this plastic wrap. Remember the designs on this and the tacky feel to the bottom?)
2. Place it over your container.** (I have this to be much easier to do with this wrap than any wrap I have ever used before. Thank goodness! No more fighting with plastic wrap.)
3. Press tightly with two fingers against the dry rim of your container.** (I have to admit, I was shocked the first time I used this wrap to see it actually grips onto the side of the bowl I was covering. There was no need to curse at the wrap, or
go digging for a rubber band to place around the top of my container to keep the wrap on. Finally!)
The only problem that I have found with this Glad PressN Seal Wrap is that I do find it kind of hard sometimes to line up the plastic wrap (remember that it is a bit tacky on the bottom) before I pull off a sheet. And, if I am pulling off a smaller piece, it can be a bit tricky to rip off. (Think of how you rip of any type of plastic wrap or aluminum foil.) Would I let this reason alone stop me from using this product? No way! The way that this plastic wrap grips onto my containers is something I have been waiting to find for a long time.
If you get a chance, take a look at the web site for this plastic wrap. While I use this product mostly for sealing my containers without lids or plates (leftovers) there are many other uses for this listed. One of the most interesting ones that jumped out at me was to use as a lint brush. What a great idea! So yes, I had to try it out with a pair of black pants that I own. And you know what? It actually did a nice job of removing the lint. Perhaps I wont need to purchase the replacement cartridge to my lint roller any time soon!
~ I am digging this new product! ~
While I only had one minor complaint about the Glad PressN Seal Wrap, I will definitely be making this purchase again and again. This plastic wrap does an incredible job in sealing off my containers/plates. Plus, did you know that it is microwaveable? Just another feature to keep me happy.
I am happy to say that this is one new product that I have really been impressed with. For the $2.99 (before coupon) it costs, I will happily fork over the money to replace this package when completely used. This Glad PressN Seal Wrap works great and now
relieves me from the pressure of trying to find that one lid to the container I want to use! Yippee!
