| textwostep's Full Review: Sony Handycam DCR-DVD300 DVD Camcorder |
I just purchased my DVD300 Dec. 5,2003. I went from C-VHS to mini DVD. How conveinent can you get? If you are looking for a certain scene, just scroll through the thumbnails and hit enter, the scene comes up on the screen. I wanted to have a unit that I could take good video and be able take a snapshot without picking up another piece of equipment, this is it. For the money I really don't think you can go wrong. Sony probably could have started with the price a little higher than they did but they did a good job of putting a product out that is at a reasonable price for the quality and features you get in the camera. My laptop has the original USB, not USB 2, and the transfer rate was fine. I was able to duplicate a DVD, it seemed to take a while but when you consider the I made 2 copies of 28 minutes of footage in less than 20 minutes, I feel it is pretty good, better than copying on tape. Lower light night still shots will need a flash, other than that, good to sunlight situations the pictures turn out fine. Don't plan on getting a good photo blown up to greater than a 4" x 6" or the pixels will show up. You have to get the extra, larger capacity battery or you will get stuck without power. I felt the size was fine, any smaller and it would seem too easy to be shaky. When you hit the record button it doesn't start recording immediately. Realize it has to find the next open spot on the DVD that is open - no recording over other material. I have not uses a DVD-rw yet, can't seem to catch a supplier with them, they are gone as soon as they get them. I recommend getting the camera from an on-line supplier, it will save you hundreds of dollars. I picked mine up for $1209, included: case, long life lithium battery, tripod, monopod, 3-piece filter, wide and 2x lens, cleaning kit, USB & Analog cables and a 4 year warranty. Best Buy wanted $1099 plus tax for camera, cables and a 30 minute battery.
