Sharper Image Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner: Something You Need

Written: Dec 21 '03
Pros:Small and compact, easy to use, does a great job
Cons:Nothing yet
The Bottom Line: A wonderful way to get a cleaning that looks as good as anything a jewelry stores could do. A great product.

After getting married we figured that we would need something that would clean the Mrs. rings better than the typical jewelry cleaner that works for most things. That formula never quite brings out the shine of her rings the way it should. We always knew there was a better way, but could not quite put a finger on what it was.

Until we opened a gift from a shower. The gift was in a Sharper Image box and that immediately got my attention (It was not going to be another tray or bowl!). When the box produced a jewelry cleaner I was a little upset. I wanted something cool from my favorite store. Alas, the more I thought about it the better I realized that this gift really was.

The cleaner could not be easier to use. Simply plug it in and then add water with a touch of ammonia to the bucket like area where you will place what you want cleaned. Once you have done so you simply turn the machine on. The machine will produce 42,000 (I counted myself) ultrasonic waves over the next five minutes and your jewels will be cleaned. The waves produces bubbles that supposedly get into cracks and crevices where you and I cannot get to. Additionally, it is small enough that you can take it with you on your travels. The machine weighs little and measures roughly 6.5" x 3" x 5".

You can utilize the machine for gold, silver, stones, and wristbands. You should not use on the following: pearls, opals, amber and emeralds. Basically, soft and fragile stones should not be cleaned with this machine. You can also walk away from the machine as it will turn off in five minutes automatically. Included is a special device that allows you to place various sized pieces on the cleaning tray and have them remain there. Finally, you can also clean things like coins or the like.

So, does it work? Without a doubt. My wife's ring has the shine that it does when we leave a jeweler and have just had it cleaned. She loves the look and also the nonabrasive touch that means she does not have to worry about wearing down the finish or scratches. She loves it. I like it for the job it does on my watch band. The machine gets the grime that builds up between out a heck of a lot better and faster than I can. We have had the machine for a couple of months now and must admit that it may be the shower gift that we get the most use out of. We would purchase this on our own without a question.
