Pros:new technology makes tv recording automatic.
Cons:Stalling, 3 defective units, Tivo is dishonest!
The Bottom Line: Undependable hardware. VERY poor tech support. Dishonest company that needs more competition to straighten up!

I am on my 3rd unit in 90 days. The first one was dead in days. The second one took over 10 hours to make it's daily call. The technical support people were un-educated to say the least. Even though I clearly told them my phone line was plugged directly into the source of the line from the phone company and was very clean and able to support high speed modem connections AND the ReplayTV unit without problems, they decided I needed a wireless phone jack. So instead of using a 6ft cable going directly to the phone company box, they thought it better to have a 6 foot cable going to thier wireless unit, through the airwaves, and then into another 6ft cord into the Tivo unit. Makes sense to me.....NOT. Anyway, thanks Tivo for the free wireless phone jacks that cost around $100.00 and were not necessary. It did however get rid of that excuse from Technical support.

Well the 3rd unit has a much better modem and dials out in minutes rather then hours. Just when I was getting settled into their service, I remembered that I didn't get my $100 rebate back yet. I called their rebate hotline and was told I would be called back with check number which hasn't happened either.

All 3 have been very slow. I am not sure what processor they are using but my guess is it's the slowest and cheapest thing they could find. My pocket PC most likely has 10X the processing speed of the Tivo units!

Beware a dishonest company that makes EVERYONE fight to get their rebate! If this is how they treat you from the beginning why would anyone want to pay for a "lifetime" subscription?

Also note to those that don't read the fine print. The lifetime subscription is for the life of the recorder and NOT the life of the subscriber. So don't expect it to last very long. And from my experience with the hardware, don't expect them to last more then a few months at a time either. I strongly recommend purchasing these units from a dealer who has extended warranties available!
