Pros: ease of use, picture quality, unique size at price of 17"
Cons: unreadable buttons, brightness level is average compared to other monitors.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a 18.1" monitor at the cost of a 17". I suggest that you buy this monitor and invest in Monster's DVI400 cables.

| eastcoasthandl's Full Review: Mitsubishi NX86LCD-BK Flat Panel LCD Monitor (18in... |
The Mitsubishi DiamondPoint NX86LCD 18.1 monitor has the best picture in its viewing class then Sony, Samsung or HP. The refresh rates are just a tad above average in both analog mode DVI-D mode. Its plug in play feature provides the same level of quality in win2000/win XP as the driver's supplied by nec/mistubishi. I am using Win2000 with this monitor with a DVI-D connected to a Radeon 9800 AGP Video Card (not the pro), an Asus motherboard using a P4 2.40 CPU with 1 gig of 2100 speed memory through a SIS chipset. This monitor appears to run smoother & faster in games & Internet using a resolution of 1280 by 1024, using a high Color of 32 bit in DVI-D mode. Texts are small but very vibrant and crisp w/o any eye strain from 5' away.
Now with the digital $100 Monster DVI cord I found the following:
1. Video games and text are more rich
2. Smoother in true color 32bit when playing Max Payne 2
and skins appear to be more life like.
It appears that although you have a port for analog cable and DVI-D cable this monitor was really intended to be use with the DVI-D as I did see some noticeable improvement overall in color richness and smooth (as I didnt notice any jerking). Attempting to view text from the left/right & top/bottom and it was 100 readable w/o eye strain.
This monitor does a good job placing the entire win2000 home screen from corner to corner without any adjustments. For example, the entire clock plus 3mm gap is found to the lower right hand corner and you can clearly see where the tool bar begin and end at the bottom of your screen.
Now I do have one grip, that is the buttons that give you control of how the monitor operates found at the bottom of the monitor. They are completely unreadable and I have on several occasions used a flash light with the room lights on in broad daylight to read those buttons.
I have had this monitor for about 8 months now and rarely turn it off as it goes to standby mode when I shut the computer off. I use this monitor for gaming, Internet use and typing text. Overall the picture quality is superb for it's size and compared to other monitors of it's type it picture quality in dvi-d mode is good but not as bright.
