carl_lazarevic's Full Review: Sega Dreamcast Grey Console
We've reached a point now where the current contenders for chief consoles are soaring down in price, but still have a few years before their replacements arrive. Yet which one should you, the consumer, decide to get? That is up to you t decide, but in order to help you I've decided to review the current contenders in a way to show who would like what, because they each have their own advantages, depending on what you're looking for.
Noooooo, run away, run away now. I'm sorry old friend, you were loyal to me years ago, but now you are so dead that I gave you to my sister.
Space Saver?
Average, bigger than a PS2, smaller than an X-Box. You should have no problem fitting it in your living room, and less trouble storing it away. However if you have a lot of stuff then making space could require effort.3/5
Ease Of Use?
Dreamcast has a good joypad. Fits comfortably in the hand, and the trigger buttons are in an optimal position. The other buttons are easy to reach, and it remains comfortable, even after hours of play. Loses a point for being bulky though. 4/5
Power?
128 bit, but the least powerful 128 bit I know of. The systems graphics once impressed me, but to be honest they are not that much more impressive than a PSone which is still doing better than this 'next gen' console. 3/5
Variety?
Not good, there are a few good games on the Dreamcast, in a variety of different genre's but all of the best games are available elsewhere. Most of the games I was looking forward to are now gone, living in development hell, where they shall remain forever. 2/5
Price?
No longer available brand new, at least that's what I heard. Used is around $48.99 / £27 which is a good price, but not for a second hand console that will never see any new games. Old games are cheap, very cheap though. I've seen them as low as $8 / £5, but even then I rarely see them anywhere any more. 5/5
Overall?
It was a good console, but was ignored and Sega gave up on it, and all consoles for the rest of eternity. I've included it here on principle, the principle that I want to reach 100 reviews before 2004, but there's no reason to buy this.
This has been my entry into the Lean-N-Mean write-off.
