| nightskies's Full Review: AmbiCom Ambicom Wireless Bluetooth Usb Adapter Blu... |
Wireless technology is the future; there is no doubt about that. With new cell phones, PDA's, computers and even cars taking advantage of new wireless, over-the-air technologies, time is running out for those looking to stay anything but outdated.
I discovered the Ambicom BT2000 bluetooth dongle after getting a bluetooth equipped cell phone, the Sony Ericsson T616. I wanted games, themes and ringtones on my phone without pay 3 bucks per item. I also wanted to send the pictures I snapped with my new camera phone to my computer. The best way to do this was with bluetooth, wireless data transfer with a range of over 30 meters. It even works between rooms! Now the question was, which adapter do I choose? Prices range from $25 to $80 dollars and several reputable brands like Dlink and Microsoft offer BT dongles. I ended up choosing the Ambicom BT2000 for $40 at CompUSA. Why? It was the only one left. Thank god it's such a functional and easy little piece of equipment, otherwise I'd have felt stupid.
Ease of Use
The one thing Ambicom has going for it is the ease of use. Anyone with any sort of PC know how will know to plug it into a USB port. Then following the concise instructions, install the software and open up the Bluetooth Neighborhood software and your ready to go. The software detects any active BT devices and you can then simply drag and drop. The software also allows the setting up of an FTP between BT devices, and other features such as dial up networking, push, and file transfer.
Compatibility
I run on both Win98 and Win2k and the adapter works fine. It's USB 1.1 and doesn't need the fast transfer of 2.0 because of the max speed of bluetooth.
Reliability
I've had it for over 3 months now, plugged in and in use everyday. No problems with either the hardware or the software.
Value
For 40 bucks, I've gained a new degree of usability between my PC and cell phone. Images, scheduling calender events, managing and backing up contacts; it's all easier now thanks to the BT2000. Easy to use, reliable, and fairly priced, not too shabby if you ask me.
