Pros: Decent lager with consistent taste
Cons: Not the best, not the worst - nothing distinctive
The Bottom Line: If you like Saranac products, this is a good lager to sit back and enjoy - just don't expect anything special.

"On the tenth day of Christmas, my true love was getting a little tired of the giving thing, and said "Get your own darn beer."
about SARANAC
Saranac beers are brewed by the Matt Brewing Company, a brewery located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in Central New York. Over a century old, the brewery is currently being run by the third and fourth generations of the Matt Family (Nick and Fred, respectively). Today, the company brews a number of different beers (27 different beers in the recent past, including seasonals and limited editions), as well as 5 different soft drinks.
about TRADITIONAL LAGER
At this point, I have worked my way through almost a half-case of Saranac beers, some good and some bad. I have saved the most unique two (Single Malt and Season's Best - Nut Brown Lager) for last, and one of my favorite styles until the near end.
The beer poured to just about what I expected - a copper colored lager similar to most of the style, with only a slight head. The nose offers up some malt, but is a relatively mild scent. Leaning the glass to my lips, I get my first taste - yep, it's a lager. Unfortunately, there's not much more to say about it.
It's a serviceable lager, and offers a combination of bitter and sweet tastes, not overly complex even as they mix. Made with two row and wheat, as well as Cluster and Tettnanger hops, this beer doesn't strive for a lot of character, and its low-reaching expectations achieve their goal.
But it is a decent beer - this could be "Any Man's Lager" - and I would venture to guess that this beer is one of the most popular styles used for Saranac's MyBeer product. When you want a simple beer to sit back and enjoy a game or a night of poker with friends, this would definitely fit the bill.
The lager offers up a 4.8%ABV, not too bad.
final THOUGHTS
While this isn't a stand-out selection, Traditional Lager is a decent lager; I would prefer Yuengling myself, but this is a good choice for those who want a standard lager found throughout most of the country.
random BEER FACT
On October 17 of 1814, a rupture in a brewery tank containing 3,500 barrels of beer caused a flood of fatal proportions in the London parish of St. Giles. The wave of beer swept victims off their feet, dashed them against walls, and buried them under debris. Two houses were demolished in the sea of beer suddenly loosed upon town, and nine people lost their lives in the flood of suds.
