My guess is that Mr. Sterilite never intended this unit to be used as underwear dresser drawers, but that’s what my daughter uses hers for. This is a wonderful unit that can be used for any storage job. It is roomy, lightweight to carry, can use or not use its canister wheels, and is the right size to fit into any room area with ease. It’s not beautiful to look at; but it’s white and at least blends in with most areas that you’d want to store it in.

In the last apartment that my daughter rented, there were many closets but not much bedroom space. She opted not to move her dressers but to only have a bed, her computer area and a nightstand. But, since she didn’t have a dresser for underwear and some of her foldable clothing she needed to find an alternative. We went shopping and found the least expensive way to solve her problem was to purchase two of these four drawer plastic drawer units. In one she didn’t install the wheels but set it on a low raised area in one of the closets. In this she placed her underwear and nightwear. In the other unit she installed the wheels and stored her workout clothing, sweats and lounging clothing, jewelry and belts, and used one drawer for odds and ends. The odds and ends drawer proved that she is like her mother since I have one drawer in every room that I call my, ‘junk” drawer. These drawers are very important in keeping clutter hidden though not gone.

This unit has four large drawers and canister wheels that you can choose to install or not. To install the canister wheels all you have to do is stick them into the holes provided on the bottom of the unit. The drawer unit is already installed when you purchase them. Take off the tape that holds the drawers in place and you are ready for use. The unit is a white hard plastic unit with four drawers that are semi see through. They are shaded enough that it is hard to pick out individual items but clear enough to see colors and shapes. The drawers slide easily and are pretty substantially constructed. The depth of the unit is 26 inches by height of 43 1/8th inches by a width of 29 inches. The drawers themselves are about 27 inches. These drawers are about the same size as most dresser drawers. Since the unit is white, it does need cleaned off regularly. The nice part is that cleaning is quite easily accomplished by using hot water and soap and we sponge it off and dry it with paper towels. We usually just worry about cleaning the outside of the unit because the drawers inside, depending on what you’re using it for, stays clean because the drawers close tightly.

The only problem with the unit is that if you fill the drawers with things that are heavy, they don’t slide as easily nor do they stay on track as well. I would not recommend this unit if you wanted to store cans in a pantry or heavier tools in a garage.

I would, however, recommend them for just about anything else. She bought one of these units for a friend that does scrap booking and the friend loved the gift and how nicely it keeps her materials organized. I bought one for myself and use it to keep my school supplies in a somewhat organized fashion. I have construction paper and packs of other papers in the bottom drawer and use the others to keep crayons, markers, pens, pencils, stickers, rulers, staplers, hold punch, etc.

My daughter recently moved into a different apartment and this one is roomier but doesn’t have hardly any storage space. She still is using one of the units in her closet and has decided that she prefers not having a dresser because she likes the extra space for other things. Since she has a pantry but very little cupboard space, she’s put the other one in her pantry and stores everything she doesn’t have room for in it. She is thinking of purchasing another one to leave out in her large kitchen because it looks presentable enough to have out where people can see it.

This unit has many uses besides the ones mentioned. Although it says they can be used for filing folders, I’ve not been able to see how on this model. It could also be used for baby clothes, storage of clothes, art supplies, photographs…but not the albums, magazines, tree ornaments, bows and decorations, small tools, and anything else that you can use your imagination for and need storage for.

Please keep in mind that this unit really shouldn’t be used for heavy items or storage but if you use it properly, it is a wonderful addition to your storage organization.
