Do not buy Gateway

I would not recommend a Gateway notebook under any circumstances. Reliability is an issue, and Tech Support doesn't help.

LOVE my Gateway! (Reply to this comment)

I've got a Gateway, and have had absolutely no problems with it! It works like a dream from morning until night and I could not ask for a more reliable piece of equipment. I have a Solo 5300 with 14" screen and 750 MHz Celeron CPU. It's at least 1 1/2 years old now and the only changes I've made is to add more memory and upgrade the hard drive from 10 GB to 40 GB. I exchanged a Travelstar for a Travelstar (!) and have not had one iota of a problem. Of course, I've also not had to call Gateway for support so cannot judge the quality of their problem solving abilities. And regarding screen problems, mine is as bright as the day I bought it with no missing pixels. I certainly don't doubt the negative experiences others have had with Gateway computers, but ironically, I was just perusing a laptop repair site where they state "don't ever buy a Dell laptop. We've had to fix more Dell laptops than any other." Like vehicles and any other mechanical device, I'm guessing there are lemons to be found among laptops -- no matter the brand!
