My New Addition:
.....I got a computer as a gift a couple months ago. I was fine with everything except that it had a ball mouse. I've always favored the laser mice ever since they came out on market. I had the ball mouse for about seven weeks before my mom got a new one for me for Christmas this year. I went through CompUSA to find some computer stuff to get for my computer and came across the mouse section. There were many to chose from, ball mice, wireless, and many more. I just wanted a laser, aka optical, mouse whether or not wireless. Finally I decided on this one for Christmas. So far, I've had no problems with it and it's been loyal to me so far. It also has a scroll wheel on it. That is a must for a mouse.
Out Of The Box:
.....In the box, you will get only 3 things: a mouse, a USB cord extension, and the installation software. The unit comes in a clear case with green and white labels. The mouse and cord extension come out of pack as one. You will have to take the cardboard piece out of the package to get the software disc. Make sure you dont through it away because your mouse will not work without it.
..The USB extender can be used if necessary. It is about three feet long. It can be used for other devices if you do not need it for the mouse, but chances are you will need it.
Just What Is An Optical Mouse?
..For all you clueless folk out there, an optical mouse that just dont have a stupid ball. Instead, it has this little laser thing in it that sends a constant beam of laser onto the desk that picks up movement when the light gets distorted. There is a receptor in it that picks up this distorted light and tells the mouse which way the mouse is moving, which in turn tells the computer which way to move the cursor. From the time the mouse is moved, the beam interrupted, the signal picked up and decoded, the message then sent to the computer is all in about 1/100,000,000 of a second, which means that your mouse wire could run around the planet a few times and your computer would still get the signal in no time.
How Das Dis Ting Fewl?intentional
..The mouse feels great in the hand. Many people dont even realize that when your hands arent typing, theyre probably on the mouse, even when your reading the screen its on there. Thats why it is important to have a mouse that feels great. This one feels excellent. It is just a bit smaller than a normal mouse, but it is good sized. Sitting my hand on it for long periods of time is comfortable.
Giving In To Good Looks:
..The top half of the mouse is gray. There is a Logitech icon in the middle. The left and right buttons are in front as always. A scroll wheel is placed in between the buttons for easy scrolling. The under half is black tinted transparent case. This is cool because whenever you move the mouse, the whole thing lights up with the red laser enough to light up a room a night. Really! When it isnt lit up, there is a constant dim red glow. Just dont stare into the laser.
Time To Plug It In:
..You can do one of two things to install the mouse. You can (1)plug it in and install the software, or you can (2)install the software with the original mouse plugged and then plug the new one in. I chose to install it after the mouse was plugged.
.. If you want to install it using version one, first you must shutdown your computer completely. This is because if you dont and plug the mouse in, the computer may freeze, as did when I did it. Next, the mouse has to be plugged into an available USB port. If you dont have a USB port or not an available one, you can purchase a PS connector to plug it into the mouse jack, where it should go anyway. It is better to have it in the USB port because can use the original mouse to set it up, which is what youll have to do anyway. Now I have both mice plugged in and I can use both at the same time for fun.
..Now, you have to turn the computer on. When the computer is ready, put the CD into the CD drive and let it go. It should start on its own. If not, go to My Computer and click the CD drive icon. The setup is simple to do and only takes a few minutes. Just follow the on screen directions. To make it fast, just click yes for everything. Once the setup is complete is done, the mouse should work. If not, follow the second version.
..To set up the mouse using the second method, go through the setup process with the original mouse and then shutdown the computer, plug in the new mouse, and turn on the computer.
..Once the new mouse is installed and working, you can unplug the old mouse. Or you can leave it plugged in and use both to amuse yourself, whatever floats your boat. It can be weird using both at once. If you put both side by side and move them apart, the cursor will not go anywhere, because it wants to go both directions with each mouse. So, it will just vibrate on the screen. Or if you are playing a two-player game, you dont have to switch the mouse to each other.
Conclusion:
..In the end, the Logitech Mini Optical Mouse pulls through as a superior mouse. I would most definitely take it over a ball mouse and most other optical mice. It is comfortable to the touch and has a nice light show. And aside from everything else, its inexpensive, even though I didnt pay for it.
