Very helpful (Reply to this comment)
by katmar
review, and I have a stupid question. This site used to make it easy to get to the "just in" section. At this point in time, how does one do that? I did say it was a stupid question, right?
Would you email me the answer if you get a chance. You can put, "hey moron" in the subject line if you like.
I really enjoyed reading this. I especially liked the part about WHO you trust, and also the awkward situation that arises when someone trusts you, and you can't trust them back because of the quality of reviews, or even such dissimilar tastes.
And speaking of WHO you trust, I'm adding you to my WOT tonight. I think you're wonderful.

A 'switched on' & highly informative contribution on a key issue here at Epinions.
I was interested in your suggestion about speaking the copy. Good writers really are able to write as they speak. Reading their work, one is able to hear their voice as such, as though they were speaking.

Wow, after my rant yesterday, I'm really glad you stopped by and left a comment. Been checking out YOUR stuff, and like what I'm reading. This editorial in particular is good advice for young and old alike.
Nice job.

for such a well thought out editorial. You offer some serious points that several people should think about before they start using and abusing their WOT's.

What an excellent summary for all of us, new and old (Reply to this comment)
by fiona32
Epinioners alike. I just discovered you this morning, in the "Just In" section. I love it when I come across another superb writer, with a way of putting forth this kind of helpful information.
I know my Web of Trust is still in the two-digits, because I've basically had Writer's Block for several months, along with some issues that had to take precedence. So I've continued to read and rate daily, but not write new Epinions.
Getting this balance back is very important; your review has really helped me once again, to kick my self in the butt.....(not a pretty sight), and attack this list of topics/products/books, etc. I can write reviews on. I like your natural writing style; and the taping your thoughts suggestion is excellent!

WOW! You just helped me so much. Thanks for this great review. I take my WOT very seriously and this epinion just makes me happy that that there are others out there that take it as seriously as I do.
I like your tape recorder idea. I am going to have to put that to good use.
Thanks! :o)

Great advice! (Reply to this comment)
by bobbo428
This is advice I should have taken last summer, when I wrote about 30 opinions. My WOT, however, languished in the single digits because I was too preoccupied merely with writing opinions.

As someone that is new to this site, all of the information can be overwhelming. You helped me more than I can say with the WOT. Thank you! You are very wise!!

After finishing this essay, I was reminded all over again why you're on my WOT, because you just write very well. Your stock just went way up in my book.
Touche! Two or three of your statements really hit home. Like what is my WOT saying about me? Or would I trust myself if I wasn't me? Those made me pause for a minute. I think it's time to do some soul-searching...
Catch ya later!

I agree...I tend to think lyrics in my head, too, and it's great when you can work them into a review. Also liked the comment about using a tape recorder to make sure the piece stays conversational. It sure worked with this one.

Great Review! (Reply to this comment)
by Lark729_89
It seems every time I come to your reviews, they get better and better.
I had a friend join..in fact 2..one wrote well but she quit and I took her off my WOT.
I cannot say anything about the other as she did put a request in many months ago for comments to come to her.
I got her to join because her heart has been broken by the loss of a child. However, no more poems or writing from her since December.
Oh and I keep putting you on my WOT and you keep coming off. Maybe now you'll stay since after the new design on "comments requested" and "reviews requested" the spring bugs have left Epinions hopefully.
Looking forward to your next review.

Tracey Chapman..... (Reply to this comment)
by itfollowsme
...was an awesome little comment to thrown in there. I laughed pretty hard at that one. Imagining her bopping you with her guitar, but it got my attention and HUMOR is what gets my eye the fastest! Great review.. as you have heard over and over again. I love your style and I will continue to rate you as long as you write. Your my type of Epinioner. Lots of smiles and plenty of imaginative jokes to highlight the typical boring review. Very Good WORK!

She Strikes Again (Reply to this comment)
by hhassell99
Maybe I talk to much LOL I just went to your profile page and saw that you have a pic of HARRISON FORD on there - the man of my dreams. I have told my husband several times that his main competition is Harrison Ford. I even use to have a life-sized standee of him in my old apartment (before I was married, of course). Your writing was enough to add you to my own WOT - Harrison Ford's picture was icing on the cake :)

Two things (Reply to this comment)
by hhassell99
1) I love the section about a friend joining epinions. This happened to me with a friend that I have known for a long time. She joined, trusted me, and wrote horrible epinions. However, like you said, I just sort of ignored her and she went away because she wasn't making the money.
2) I have to read my epinions outloud before I post them. If I don't - they suck. Sorry to be so blunt. I get so carried away with writing that I use the wrong words, misspell, you name it so I think that your advice of tape-recording is good. I just subject my poor husband to my epinions - do you know how many times he heard about our coffeemaker?
Ok - I lied. There are three things.
3) Great review! You give some good advice, especially with those just starting out. A WOT can be a complicated issue.

Hello! (Reply to this comment)

This is a well written extensive discussion. I enjoyed this a lot. Thanks.
When I read the editorials on Web of Trust, I often confused, because many people take this as something moral standard. It is fine, but we are just playing a game on the cyber space. In this sense, I like your style a lot.

Well written and informative (Reply to this comment)
by Trevsmom
Thanks for writing this. It is very well-written and you bring up several good points. I have noticed the same thing with the WOT. I also like your idea of using a tape recorder. I haven't tried this but one thing I'll do is write down some thoughts on paper, then when I get to the computer to write I just have to type what's on the page.

Very good advice (Reply to this comment)
by susiee
especially for a newbie. I know that the one about trusting somebody from real life is a tough one. My mother is a member, but her writing is really bad, and I had to decide whether to put her on my WOT or not. She gets very upset with me when I give her a SH rating, but understands why, finally.

I recently saw an addition of 31 people add me to their WOT in the March month. I have no CLUE as to why, lol!
But I love it and will trudge along, hopefully making people laugh or whatever in the process.
great review as always.

Well written and informative - when I have time (sadly I only have access at work, and then only in non-working time, like now (5.43 PM), I'll re-read and try to figure out what I'm doing wrong...
Cheers!

disarmingly frank... (Reply to this comment)

...and you are thus practicing what you preach, so to speak. There is a lot of insight here that will be immediately relevant to newer members, or those who might become members. But what I like most about it is the chat-over-a-cold-one, unpretentious style, which balances nicely against the tone set by the title. Fine work.

Great Review!! (Reply to this comment)
by shantel575
This is so informative! I wish everyone would read it!
I am glad i am not the only one that feels the way you do about the WOT. For instance...I stumbled upon a writer the other day that was very rude and offensive and I went to his profile page to see what he was all about. Well, when I got there there were 2 people that trusted him that I have on my WOT. And they are upstanding members, so I was shocked. I emailed one of them to let them know what this member's true behavior was (assuming they really didn't know)...and they didn't. She immediately removed him from her WOT.
Well the other person still trusts this guy and I don't feel I can email this other person (I don't really know him well enough) so I am really contemplating removing him from my WOT b/c I cannot trust someone that trusts this offensive person.
Are you totally confused now? LOL Sorry for rambling, but I was glad to see you agreed with this philosophy of the WOT. :-)
Great review!

With the notification system (Reply to this comment)
by poseidon
that used to exist, I would track all my Trusted Members reviews. That way, I could always keep on top of them and make sure I wanted them to remain in my WOT.
Now it is a lot more difficult. I'll admit that it has taken a much lower priority because I simply don't have the time to check my entire WOT on even a regular basis.
This is an excellent article!

Interesting thoughts. I will agree with you on this. You are right....it is your WOT that determines your success here. No doubt about it.
Lord knows you don't want to end up on too many members WOD. :O My personal nightmare! lol.
