This is my list of the top ten love story movies in no particular order. These movies are perfect for cuddling up with your sweetheart, or for those of us who are usually alone, a bucket of Heath bar crunch ice cream works wonders! ENJOY! 1. Legends of the Fall - This is a great historical romance about three brothers. The youngest brother, Samuel, gets engaged but dies in the war. His fiance, Suzanna, falls in love with the middle brother, Tristan. However, Alfred, the oldest brother, falls in love with Suzanna. Tristan can't get over his brother's death and leaves. After many years, Tristan comes back to find that Suzanna married Alfred. It's a very tragic story but it's a really great movie! Also, Brad Pitt plays Tristan - need I say more? 2. Top Gun - Being a huge 80's fan, the music in this video alone makes it worth watching. Maverick, played by Tom Cruise, is a pilot who starts dating one of his instructors. He doesn't play by the rules, gets in an accident, and his co-pilot dies. He has a really hard time getting over it, but his 'instructor' helps him out. Val Kilmer is another pilot in this movie (just so you know.) 3. Grease - This movie is just so much fun! They don't make them like this anymore! This is a musical set back in the 50's. Danny, played by John Travolta, is your typical bad boy. Sandi, played by Olivia-Newton-John, is a girl that plays by the rules. They meet one summer and really hit it off. However, when school starts, she finds out that he is a phony and that he is really a jerk. In the end, she loosens up and takes a walk on the wild side. This is just an all-around FUN movie. 4. The Saint - This is a Val Kilmer movie. He is a spy and seduces a lady scientist so he can steal her formula for cold fusion. She eventually figures him out, but they both fall in love with each other. This is a great action love story. 5. The Blue Lagoon - This is a great movie to watch if you're dreaming about summer! These two kids get shipwrecked on an island with one of the men from the crew. He eventually dies and they grow up together on a secluded island. After the awkward years of puberty, they fall in love and have a child. This is definitely a classic love story. 6. Pretty Woman - This is a story about a hooker, played by Julia Roberts, who makes a business deal with a rich business man, played by Richard Gere. After spending the week together, he falls in love with her and she decides that she wants more out of life. This is the classic rags to riches story with a touch of humor. 7. Gone With the Wind - I'm sure everyone knows about Scarlett and Rhett! If you're in for a long night, you can watch 'Scarlett' also, which is the sequel. 8. Titanic - This is one of my recent favorites. A rich girl falls in love with a poor boy on the infamous ship, Titanic. The ship sinks and they struggle to survive. This is a really long movie so you'd better buy a whole gallon of ice cream. 9. Dirty Dancing - I have loved this movie ever since I was old enough to watch it. This is a great movie about an average girl named Baby, played by Jennifer Grey, who learns that there is another side to life. Johnny, played by Patrick Swayze, is a dance instructor who teaches her more than a few dances! 10. Cocktail - I like this movie because it's a lot of FUN! Tom Cruise plays a student who gets a job bartending. He eventually gets to be a really great bartender and ends up bartending in Jamaica. He meets the girl of his dreams there but loses her because of a stupid bet. He goes back to the states and finds her but she is pregnant. He eventually wins her over. This is just an all-around GREAT movie. I wish I could have listed more than 10, because I have many more that I love. Some close seconds are Meet Joe Black, Knotting Hill, Hope Floats .... I could go on and on. I never get tired of watching these movies!  |
