My 3 year old son (and I) love The Wiggles. So, when we planned to take a trip to his grandparents house they purchased him his very own Wiggles Ready Bed for him to sleep in. As he sleeps in a toddler bed at home with Wiggles bedding they thought this would be a cute little bed for their house since he has long outgrown the pack 'n play he slept in during previous visits.
What is a Ready Bed?
A Ready Bed is a combination sleeping bag/air mattress that is portable. It comes with an air pump which inflates the bed in just a few minutes with very little effort. When you are not using the bed, simply deflate it, roll it up and store it in a handy carrying bag. In its bag, the bed is much smaller than your standard children's sleeping bag making them very easy to store or use for traveling.
Going to bed with The Wiggles
My husband was tasked with the inflation and set up duty of our Wiggles Ready Bed. Of course, he did not read the instructions and set to inflating the plastic air mattress with the included pump first off. Ooops! Once inflated, the air mattress does not fit inside the cotton cover with attached fleece sleeping bag. So, this meant we had to deflate it (simply press on the special valve to let the air out) and start over. While the mattress is deflated insert it into the bed cover and smooth it out, then pump it up. The pump is a simple accordian style pump that can be used with your hand or foot. Its very easy to use, even a child could do it. However, the pump is a bit noisy and made for some rather funny/obscene sounds during inflation. Total inflation time of the bed is just a few minutes and then you are ready to go (to bed).
Once pumped up you have a fleecy sleeping bag that zips down the side and is attached to a cloth covered air mattress, complete with a pillow. The bed is on the small side, but just perfect for little kids. The official dimensions are 61" long X 28" wide X 8" high. Gosh, being that I am 61" tall myself that doesn't say much.
The Ready Bed is available in a variety of characters, but this one features The Wiggles riding in their big red car with the phrase "Get Ready to Wiggle" printed across it. The colors are typical Wiggles - Red, Blue, Purple and Yellow all in bright primaries, making this bed perfect for all Wiggles fans (boys or girls). I particularly liked the warm, cozy fleece sleeping bag which kicks some serious butt over the thin and lumpy fiberfill type bags that I slept in as a kid. The bag itself is also machine washable (after you take the mattress out).
My husband and I were both really impressed with the comfort and firmness of The Wiggles Ready Bed. Our experience with air mattresses has left quite a bit to be desired in the past as we recounted tales of camping and waking up laying flat on the ground. We both kind of expected that this might be the case with the readybed also. However, we were so very wrong. My son slept on his Wiggles Ready Bed for 4 nights with absolutely no sign of any lost air or deflation of the mattress. The weight restriction on the bed is 150 pounds which for a kids bed is pretty generous (my son weighs a whopping 34 pounds at this time!).
At the end of our trip we simply unscrewed the cover for the valve and released the air (there is a special valve which seals it). Then rolled the bed up and put it in its nylon storage bag so its ready for our next visit. Overall, a success. For the inexpensive price of this bed (under $40), I would have to whole heartedly recommend it to Wiggles fans in need of a portable sleeping arrangement.
My only "complaint".. they don't make a Wiggles Ready Bed in my size. Sure, I could squeeze into my son's but I'm afraid I'd pop it and would like it to be just a tad bit larger. After all, if I'm climbing into bed with 4 grown men.... There, I admitted it...
