Convenient Solution for Power Draining Devices

Written: Dec 31 '03 (Updated Jan 02 '04)
Pros:Easy recharging, no 'memory loss' , Charges in 1 hour Amazing value
Cons:Batteries get hot when charging, expensive compared to Alkaline batteries, Charger sold separately
The Bottom Line: Great convenience, saves money, environmental, smart

These Energizer rechargeable batteries are a must have for anyone with a digital camera, electric toothbrush, or power draining device. When empty, place the batteries in the charger, which is sold separately from this specific battery pack, yet included with some others. The charger can hold up to four AA or AAA batteries, or a combination of those. In less than an hour, all of the batteries have been charged and are ready to be deployed into use. These NIMH batteries last as long as normal Alkaline batteries when in use, and do not have a 'memory loss' effect (as with NICD batteries) which, over time, depletes the energy storage capacity of the batteries through being recharged. Once the batteries are empty, just charge them up again.

A huge pro with these batteries is the savings. Instead of using 5, or ten disposable batteries a month, just use the rechargeable ones so you don't have to buy new ones. Also, the batteries can be recycled a certain facilities and pickup stations.

The only drawbacks are that the batteries are nearly 3x more expensive than Alkaline batteries, the Charger is sometimes sold separately, and the batteries get how when charging. The temperature of the batteries ( About the same as batteries which had been in use in a fan or such for about an hour) during charging at first alarmed me, but I soon realized that the temperature of the batteries was not hot enough to start a fire, even though I keep the charger away from flammable objects as a precaution

Note: the following information was provided to me by nc10 and he notified me of any mistakes in the previous review now being corrected:
Although these rechargeable batteries provide more power than alkaline batteries in high drain devices, Alkaline batteries are often found better at sustaining low and medium drain devices over time. Additionally, alkaline batteries lose ab out 2% of their charge a month at room temperature. NiMH batteries lose 20% of their charge a month, yet this can always be recharged into the NiMH battery, as when the alkaline battery loses charge, it will cannot be recharged. To see the source for this info, look at nc10's comment on this review.
