Does exactly what I wanted it to

Pros: The group feature is handy in ways I had not envisioned.

Cons: The 8 sub groups is a bit less than what is really needed

The Bottom Line: A good buy if you want to get out of the CD storage rut and finally get a chance to hear all your music.

The unit although not my dream answer is fantastic at what it does. The 8 sub groups is a bit less than what is really needed but it can be lived with.
As for the skipping issues I have had none but I keep my CD's like I kept my albums. clean and always put away after use. I never take the masters out on the road I make copies for those applications.
Tossing out 200 plus Jewel cases felt odd but I opted for an index and I have filed the sleeves in a couple of those mega CD binders if I need them for a reference. A simple excell spreadsheet done alphabetically as a master index is easily updated and will let you find whatever CD you want, providing you note it down when doing your initial loading.
The group feature is handy in ways I had not envisioned. I created a group called other rock, all my old stuff that I didn't tend to listen to much with my 5 disc changer. I put in that group on "shuffle" and hear all kinds of tunes I'd forgotton about.
The shuffle remembers what has been played even when you turn it off and return to the group in shuffle mode later on. As a result you don't repeat until you have gone through all the tracks on all the discs in a group.
Finally you can "delete specific tracks from a disc so they don't get included in the shuffle sequence.
As I said it could do more but I happy with what it does do.
I personally went with the extra 4 year warrenty as I'm sceptical a box with moving parts won't fail sooner or later.
