Congrats on going through with this! My brother donated his hair when he had it cut last year. He went from long haired hippie freak to short and conservative... quite a shock, but I was glad that he donated too.

thanks for the great review (Reply to this comment)

i'm so glad i found this review -- i stumbled upon it completely randomly, although the timing is so perfect and i don't believe in coincidences. ;-)
i can never decide what i want to do with my hair -- grow it or cut it, cut it or grow it? then i heard about locks of love a few months ago, and thought it sounded wonderful. my hair is now 15 inches long, and i'm getting sick of it and want to cut it. however, i've decided to keep growing it until i can cut off 10 inches!!
a personal testimony such as yours was just the encouragement i needed. thank you!

I am so impressed by your act of generosity! I know just how hard it is to givve up any length of one's hair. My babies all loved to play in mine while it was still long(past my tush!), and I cried when mine was cut. Unfortunately, I didn't know about this charity at the time, because donating it would have made me feel so much happier about the whole thing. My hair was cut by accident- I went in for my usual trim, and my hairdresser was having a loud and rather emotional argument with his boyfriend. Anyway, he forgot what he was doing, and instead of taking off my usual two inches, I ended up with a not-quite chin-length bob. I cried all the way home...
Hugs to you!

I've heard of this program, but never have had a chance to donate myself. Maybe next time I grow my hair that long I will. Good luck with the hair cut! I'm sure you'll be just as beautiful as before, maybe even more so because your spirit will be even better! You are giving a child something she may never have again. How wonderful:)

is considered a 'deadly sin' if you believe in that. I think this is a great cause and ten inches won't matter at all. Have fun, okay?

As you know, I share your hair-vanity.
While I've not donated my hair to charity (and rather doubt I will), I did get around a foot cut off of it a few months ago. Well, ten inches. I also did that a couple of years ago.
If it's any consolation, it really didn't look much different -- when one has hair as long as we both do, ten inches is nothing. Nobody really noticed either time.
I do wonder how much of it you're chopping off, though. Guess I'll see, eventually.

I have heard of this before. What a worthy cause! I too have long hair, almost to my waist. I could never cut it, but for something like this I would consider. I'll have to think about it!
Congrats on your 200th review!

(Mine's a wargamer, too!)
Redlass, you are a noble soul. I should have had enough sense to do the same thing when mine began falling out two months ago. By the time I cut it (and not in a braid or 'tail) it was almost half gone anyway.
And now it has started growing back, and soon I shall look just fine, and some little girl who could have had seventy-five percent of my previous pelt will have to wait for someone else's.

for a beautiful cause. This age is horrible for those who aren't "perfect" and I applaud you for your sacrifice. Your heart is as lovely as you are, and I'm proud to know you :)

I keep cutting it... (Reply to this comment)
by lisalexx
it keeps growing back.
I, too, had a problem when I cut my hair last December and I only took about 6 inches off. And I now love it!
I guess all I can say is, yours will grow back too.
Besides, as I near thirty long hair really isn't in much anymore, is it?
Losing your hair will probably make you look a lot better whether you think that now or not. It is, after all, just hair.
The darn stuff keeps coming back!

...for doing something so unselfish and loving. I know it's hard to part with long hair. I recently had 5 inches cut off. I regret that I wasn't able to donate to Locks of Love since I didn't meet the minimum requirement. It was difficult to have those 5 inches cut off (my hair had been down to my waist for 6 years) and I thought I would regret it forever. I don't regret it. My hair looks great and I don't really miss the extra length. It will feel weird for a little bit but you should feel proud of this generous act of love.

Of course, I did not have quite 10 inches to cut. What a wonderful editorial. You will feel really wonderful about yourself when you do it. It is so nice to help out people. I don't know if I can wait until I have 10 inches to cut though, my hair is just so thick, it gets completely unruly!
Congratulations on reaching 200 reviews!

Great Organization! (Reply to this comment)

Several friends of mine cut their gorgeous hair for this charity! My friends all had hair right down to their ankles much like country singer Crystal Gayle. One day they all came to work and they looked like Ann Heche (Ellen Degeneres' former girlfriend).
All mentioned this great charity and without even a blink of the eye, each decided to donate their hair!
Great review! And, don't worry, your hair will grow back within a year or so.
