Pros: Basic road trip lodging. Clean, comfortable. Allows 1 small pet and kids stay free.
Cons: No extras...no shampoos...no continental breakfast.
The Bottom Line: Motel 6 is exactly what it says it is...a clean comfortable room for less $$$. Ask for non-smoking if you are sensitive to tobacco smoke.

I appreciate Motel 6 at Fort Smith, Arkansas because the room rates are reasonable and the staff no matter the time of day is friendly and helpful.
The first Motel 6 I stayed at was in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The room rate was $33.00 plus tax. We arrived at 1:30 a.m. Dec 23, 2003. The desk clerk was friendly and patient. We were allowed a pet and my two kids stayed free. The room was small. We had two double beds. There were no extras in the room...not even shampoo. I did not ask for a non-smoking room, so the room really did reek of tobacco smoke. Oops!
We had cable TV, a phone, warm showers, and security. The room decor was not something I noticed. However I did notice that the bed spreads were slick on the top side and scratchy polyester on the bottom side. There were no extra pillows tucked away in any drawers. We looked. We should have asked for more towels, however, we managed with the two bath towels, 1 hand towel and two wash clothes, and a towel that I brought in from the Jeep. The shower did not have any non-skid material on it. Nor were there any kind of hand rails in the toilet area or shower stall. I did notice the non-scalding water faucet in the shower.
The parking lot was well lit with adequate parking for cars and vehicles towing trailers.
It really is a budget Motel.
We were near the interstate, restaurants and gasoline. Considering that this was a major road trip. That was important.
I appreciate the convenience of a warm comfortable room with only the basics. This was the one feature that made the whole trip affordable for me and my daughters. I will stay at Motel 6 in the future.
The next Motel 6 on the trip was located in Moriarty, AZ. The cost for this room was $39.00 plus tax. This was more of a hotel as the room doors opened into a hallway. There was no thermostat in the room that we could find. The parking was a little strange for us as we had to carry our luggage through a rather dark area into a front foyer area through two sets of double glass doors and down the hall into our room. At the Moriarty Motel 6 we were allowed 1 small pet and the kids stayed free. The motel staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting places to go and budget places to get gas and food.
There were no extras in the room or for guests. However, this location had a utility room for guests that had a laundry facility ice maker, and microwave oven. We put both to good use. This utility room was clean and orderly.
This room was a bit more "done up" as far as decor goes. The bed spreads were newer and softer. The bathroom was all together though. We would have preferred a sink on the outside of the toilet/shower facilities. The sink toilet and shower were all in one room. So one had to wait or invade while the shower was in use.
The final Motel 6 we visited was in Holbrook, AZ. This location charged $29.00 plus tax. The ice machine was located beside the office, and was broken. We were allowed one small pet and the kids stayed free. We had an upstairs room which faced away from the parking lot. We found a good parking spot near the stairway. The parking lot was well lit and had adequate spaces for cars and vehicles towing trailers. The desk clerks were friendly and welcoming. They offered suggestions on local areas of interest.
The heating system was running full blast upon our arrival. We had to open windows to cool it off. It felt as though the paint would melt off the walls. We finally figured out how to adjust the thermostat. It was not the usual hotel under the window unit.
The shower, sink and toilet were once again all enclosed in one space. There was only 1 2" pack of soap there. We found no extra pillows anywhere in the room. We had cable TV, phone, and two beds. The bed spreads were slick synthetic fabric on one side with polyester batting on the other side. This was scratchy and made noises when we moved under the covers.
Final Thoughts
All in all, our stays at Motel 6 were within reason and our budget. I am pleased to say that Motel 6 staff were thoughtful and courteous at each of the locations we visited. I felt that I knew what I could expect at each of the Motel 6 locations we stopped at. There is comfort in not having unpleasant surprises at an overnight stop. At each of the three locations the service was similar, the staff friendly and helpful no matter what time of day or night we saw them. Each of the Motel 6 locations offered a clean and comfortable room at a reasonable price.
I am reviewing 3 Motel 6 locations to let you know that in my opinion, Motel 6 locations do not vary very much in their offerings either in service or in amenities. Just remember at Motel 6 you get what you pay for in that there are no extras such as an iron or ironing board, no in room coffee maker, and no blow dryer for your hair. There was no continental breakfast offered at any of the locations.
