First off, I am sure some of you are wondering exactly what an ant trail is. No, they arent on horseback trotting through my bathroom but I really think theres some invisible-to-humans sign outside that says "24 Hour Buffet". An ant trail is the scent they leave behind once theyve invaded your space, sort of like an invisible trail for other ants to follow. As some of you may know, I have an ongoing ant situation [upgraded from an ant problem] and so far everything Ive done, as well as the professional insect specialist, has proved to be a joke to get rid of the ants for more than a few weeks at a time. As soon as I cut them off in one part of the house, they pop up in another spot. So I do what I can do whip out my handy dandy bottle of Clorox Soft Scrub With Bleach and make it a little harder for the little buggers to navigate. But wait, even if you dont have an ant problem, this is a great product to have on hand when your regular cleaners just dont work to get out those tricky stains.
Clorox Soft Scrub With Bleach
As I just mentioned, this is great for getting rid of ant trails and helps to keep them away from a specific area for about two weeks. The down side is my two large dumb dogs start rooting around in the corners and come away from them sneezing and snorting up a storm. Just like the glass patio doors, you have to wonder how many times they sniff something or run into it before they catch on and stop doing it. Luckily they have grown to hate the smell of the basil plants that are now in every corner of the house [thanks to a suggestion from the H&G board] so I guess you can teach a semi-old-but-still-not-too-bright dog new tricks. I used to use this just on the kitchen counter tile to remove stains between the grout ever since one of the Clorox customer service representatives suggested this for getting rid of the ant trails Ive been using it in other areas of the house. That of course led to me experimenting with it on the base of the shower doors, the lime covered pipes under the sink and a pesky mystery stain on the bathroom vanity. In all cases the with bleach version of this liquid cleanser has proved that its a cut above other cleaning products by getting out what others couldnt.
For most of my cleaning I use Clorox Soft Scrub Cleanser but there are some things that need a little extra kick in the pants mostly the tile on my kitchen counter, the coffee pot carafe after Ive made a few pots of coffee or tea and the sink in the laundry room. As I mentioned in the review of the regular Soft Scrub product, its really important to make sure that you rinse this away or wipe it up completely especially if you are using this on a kitchen counter top or a place where food will be coming in contact with it. Sometimes its a little hard to tell if its all cleaned up even more so when its white tile, this is when I tend to get a little obsessive compulsive and rinse the area over and over. Since I have a lot of animals that I care for, I need to make sure that the kitchen counters are clean of bacteria when I prepare their food, as well as making sure the things I use to clean the area are also removed.
My stove sees a lot of use and it is a real pain to keep clean. I swear, you even look at it funny and it gets dirty. Normal spray on products like Fantastik do nothing to get rid of the dirt- in fact most of the time it makes it worse by smearing it around and leaving black streaks. Using this on the stovetop may be a little messier but in the long run I saw time, end up with a clean surface and know that I am getting rid of any bacteria that might be lurking there. If you have a timer or digital clock on your stove, keep this away from it since it will mar the surface or leave a white haze over it [learned that the hard way]. For dirty burner tops or prongs, you are better off soaking them for a while rather than trying to use this to clean them any way you look at it, they are bothersome little things so the longer you soak them, the less work you are in for.
Use this as you would any other thick liquid cleanser; apply a small amount to a wet sponge or cloth and wipe on to the surface to be cleaned. For larger areas you can apply it directly then work it in with the sponge or cloth. If you have sensitive skin you might want to wear some type of protective gloves because prolonged exposure will dry your hands out. Since this has bleach in it, you will want to have adequate ventilation and never mix this with another cleaning product. The only time Id suggest mixing this is when you are using another product in the Soft Scrub line of products, even then, be careful and dont go crazy squirting it everywhere. Be sure to read the instructions on the bottle and keep this away from children and pets. Since this has a flip top lid rather than a screw off one, it is a little easier for kids to get in to.
Things To Know
• This is available in a variety of sizes with the most common being the 12, 24, 36 ounce sizes. The larger ones are usually available in multi packs at office supply stores or for sale individually at placed like Costco or Smart & Final. Average prices for the standard size is $2.50 - $3.50 depending on where you shop so be sure to look for sales and use those coupons!
• Soft Scrub With Bleach is a great way to kill germs in your bathroom, great for when colds and the flu are circulating. You have to apply this at full strength and leave it stand for at least three minutes for it to have a disinfecting effect on the surface.
• This will stain clothing if it comes in contact with it and its not cleaned off quickly. Just because this has bleach in it, it doesnt mean that its for use on clothing to treat stains since chances are it will end up ruining it.
The Bottom Line
If you have tough stains that your regular cleaners just cant seem to get rid of, I highly suggest checking out Clorox Soft Scrub With Bleach. When used at full strength it will kill 99.9% of all surface bacteria [their claim, not mine] so this is great to have on hand to clean up after preparing chicken, meat and fish to prevent cross-contamination. This is great for almost every area of the house and has become a great tool in my cleaning arsenal.
As always, thanks for the read!
