I spent a lot of time researching before I bought Gateway.
I considered Dell, HP and Compact. I also wanted an AMD Athalon chip instead of a Pentium. Dell was eliminated because of that. Gateway appeared to give the best deal based on system configurations made at each different web-sites. One thing that disturbed me about Gateway was the
79.00 charge for a "tutorial" for CD recording since I included an 8x12x32 CD recorder in my configuration. They said that it was a "standard" charge but offered to remove the cost if I didn't want the tutorial". I told them to remove the tutorial. They also included the wrong Athalon chip on the original contract. I wanted the 1.1 Gig chip, they wrote up the 1.0 Gig chip. The price didn't change. At this point I was obviously apprehensive about closing the deal. I voiced my displeasure and was assured that the problem was an oversight. I scrutinized the final order and placed it. I received the computer in LESS time then was quoted me. The only problem I encountered was that they sent the wrong speakers. Whoever fill the order transposed some digits and sent acoustic instead of digital speakers. Gateway did correct the problem very quickly. (I reported the problem on a Friday, the replacement speakers were delivered on the following Monday). All in all I am pleased with the select 1100. I would recommend Gateway.

The tutorial was included, at no charge.
Configuring my system on the Gateway web-site makes no mention of the 79.00 charge for it. I used that configuration when I went to the Gateway store.
