I went shopping for a watch and found the best price on Overstock.com. I have to say here that I ordered the item from Overstock despite the generally horrible reviews I read about them on another best price search site, which gave them the lowest possible rating. I took a chance and LOST, big time.
I ordered the watch on 12/22 and it arrived on Xmas Eve. Cool! I opened it up and it was the wrong watch. Most disturbing was that the Mfg P/N on the box matched the packing slip number, but the watch was a cheaper watch then what I had purchased and been charged for. Long story short, I sent the item back, after being told that they would not process the credit and re-ship for approx. 3-4 weeks AFTER receiving my return! I bought the watch a month in advance for a birthday present in late January. Now I was looking at MAYBE (considering the P/N problem above) getting the right watch after the birthday.
I got my credit card statement yesterday and lo and behold Overstock had charged me TWICE for the watch, on the same day. So I called their customer service to get the 2nd charge credited and after 10 minutes of holding (while the rep checked with her supervisor to see why I was charged twice and going instead to get a donut and shoot the breeze with her co-workers, or more likely, sitting at her desk and doing other things)hanging up, calling back, getting the same rep who pretended that she was someone else, and waiting another 10 to 15 minutes while she wrote a book on her computer. I kept asking her what she was doing all the typing for - I'm not kidding, it was a veritable book - she said she was checking to see why I was charged twice. Then she says I wasn't charged twice and I said that was crap, I was looking right at my statement and I WAS charged twice. I asked to speak to her supervisor and I heard another 5 minutes of keyboarding. Finally i asked if they were a scam and she got all flustered and said she'd get her supervisor. On hold for another 5 minutes while she got another donut. Never came back. I hung up and called my credit card company to dispute both charges.
While Overstock may be a legitimate enterprise, they have lousy customer service and little or no quality control. I will never buy from them again and I'm telling all my friends to avoid them like the plague. And I hope anyone reading this will think twice before placing that order. It all goes back to that old adage - you get what you pay for.
