i always use 2 browsers when using orbitz / expedia (Reply to this comment)

the trick of letting orbitz or expedia find the cheapest flight for you and then going to the airline's site and find the same flight is a great cost-saving method. the only way to do this is to keep a second browser window open so you can go to the airline's site IMMEDIATELY. I've seen rates change as quickly as 5-minutes after being quoted, so you have to be very fast once you find a flight you like and do the goto airline's own site to avoid the booking-fees trick.

What a good idea! I really like the search engine on Orbiz but the fees are too high. I knew that lightening speed is important but I didn't think to keep two browsers open. Thanks for the comment and the tip!!

yeah, those booking fees and hidden charges totally irk me too... any way to defeat them is a good thing =) i'm glad my tip helped.

Hey there - I just started reading your reviews and like them as well. I actually recommended Hotwire with which I had a good experience. I had an awful experience with hotels.com and wrote it up recently on this site. Thanks for your comment!!

Well, my experience with Orbitz is usually positive...until a few months ago. I will never book with Orbitz again. My bf and I booked a trip to HA 5 months in advance. Then 2 days before we were about to leave, we called to inquire about shuttle services, only to be told that our entire reservation (hotel and flight) had been cancelled 2 days ago!!!! Excuse me?? We explained to the representative that we did not call to cancel and that it had to be a mistake...anyways long story short...someone called and canelled our trip...all they needed was a name, sound like the gender, and a phone number. That's it! No secret security question had to be answered, nothing, just a phone number and a name. I told them that anyone could find that information out; all that is needed is a phone book or a mutual friend! They said they have no way of really safeguarding against that, which I thought was ridiculous! There should at least be some kind of security question or something! So, in the end, they listened back to the recordings of the person who called in to cancel, and declared that it indeed was not "me", but rather someone else, and still refused to refund or re-book free of charge. We had to re-book and pay the difference....the rep...manager...whatever, did give us a $75 voucher though. YEA!!! Too bad I had to shell out an extra $1,000 of my spending money to fix something that they should have prevented! Becareful people...
