Update better (Reply to this comment)
by chazyouwin, in Cars & Motorsports
I changed my rating to Very Helpful, in part based upon your explanation in a comment you posted on another review that you did all of the testing of various cars for a class project. I think it important to point that out in your review for the sake of your credibility. -- Charles

If you want to get into auto journalism it is important that you tell readers everything you can about the car, and make them feel as if they too own it, and have driven it. Check out my reviews of 1990 Subaru Legacy and 1999 Toyota Corolla. You might some ideas of details to add.

More advice (Reply to this comment)
by pvreditor, in Cars & Motorsports
I know that I already left you a comment on one of your reviews but that seems like a long time ago. I continue to be impressed with your writing quality and by the precision of your observations about the cars.
However, a comment below mentions your relationship with the cars you've reviewed that is important to the Epinions concept. This is not traditional automotive journalism -- it is peer-to-peer discussion about automotive experience. People come to Epinions to research cars for an impending purchase and they want to know how you came to review the car that you are reviewing. It helps them greatly if they know this was a 20-minute test drive, a weekly rental or six months of ownership. That bit of information helps readers put reviews in context and I mention it in all my car reviews, only one of which was based on a test drive.
As I said before, the lack of the first-person in your reviews makes me wonder just how much you are writing from your experience and how much you've picked up from reading. I see from the comments that others are feeling a bit uneasy about this, too.
On the upside, the quality of your writing is very good and you are a fair way toward you goal of becoming an automotive journalist. I wish that most people posting reviews had your writing ability... it's a breath of fresh air.
If you update any of the reviews that I've rated "Helpful," please let me know by e-mail with the link and I will re-rate.

Hey, just so you know, all of my reviews are for cars I've either test driven, rented, or owned. I am finishing up college and trying to get into the field of auto journalism, so I am test driving new cars all the time. Thanks for the feedback.

Detail? (Reply to this comment)
by amyandtherain
Nice start, but you need a lot more details in your writing. Also did you test drive the car, do you own the car, or did you just gather information?
