Pros: Uses iPod internal power
Can tune all FM frequencies
No dangling cords
Cons: Changing frequencies not as simple as it could be.
Output power is a bit weak
The Bottom Line: I like the iTrip. It's compact and simple to use once it's tuned.

| eyegor's Full Review: Griffin Technology ITRIP FM TRANSMITTER FOR NEW (4... |
I've had my iPod since May 2003 and I love the thing. I needed a way to play it in the car though. I tried cassette adapters and I hated wrestling with the extra cord. I tried the Belkin FM adapter which was decent, but could only send on 4 frequencies (88.1, 88.3, 88.5, and 88.7 Mhz) and ate a fair amount of AAA batteries.
I heard about the iTrip back in July and ordered one shortly afterwards. Once I received my iTrip, I was fairly impressed.
It doesn't need its own batteries and it can tune all FM frequencies.
In order to tune the iTrip, you have to load frequency files into your iPod then play them back in order to tune the unit. The frequency setting stays until changed again. The tuning process isn't something easily done while on the road. You have to navigate through the menus until you find the correct file, play it, then hit pause.
Signal strength seems to be slightly weaker than the Belkin unit, but is still acceptable.
It's great that it is powered from the iPod. If you don't have an external source of power for the iPod, your iPod will run out of juice sooner. I use the Belkin auto power adapter, so that isn't an issue.
