We found out in October that my dad was going to be deployed overseas for a year. We also knew that he was going to be leaving the second week of December and not be back for Christmas (this changed at the last minute and we did get to see him). Anyways, my mom had pointed out a nice, gold locket in my Sears jewelery catalog that she wanted so she could put my dad's picture in it and wear it while he was gone.
After days of agonizing over how I was to afford this little gem, a lightbulb went off. My dad hadn't gotten anything for my mom for Christmas, so I told him about it. He logged on to Sears.com and ordered it. He even paid an extra $45 dollars to have it delivered in 3 days (because he would be leaving in 6). He went ahead and had it shipped to my apartment and told me that he would also be receiving a free Christmas tree pendant with the order since he'd spent over $100 dollars.
My dad doesn't check his email very often, but he was certainly glad he did the day after ordering because they had sent him an email telling him he needed to confirm his order yet again because it was being shipped to an address other than the one on the credit card. This is not any huge thing, a lot of websites do it for security reasons. The only problem my dad and I had was that the website doesn't inform you of this. It's just kind of sprung on you. If he hadn't checked his email THAT day, the order wouldn't have shipped and it never would've been here in time.
Shipping time was as expected. My dad placed the order on Sunday, it was filled on Monday and the box arrived at my door on Thursday. So there was the locket, but no Christmas tree pendant. The invoice had them both listed. And I found it odd that they had charged him for the pendant, seeing as how it was supposed to be free.
So my dad gave my mom the locket and she was thrilled. But then he had to go home and call Sears customer service to find out where the pendant was. They said they'd ship another one. They also said the pendant is only free AFTER you send in a rebate form. *Sigh* My dad was not very impressed with them, but we all figured it was over. The date was December 11th.
Yesterday (January 12th) a UPS man showed up at my door with a box from Sears.com. I was thinking "Hey, Mom's pendant. Cool." I opened it up to discover that they'd sent ANOTHER locket! Now, not only is this frustrating for us, Sears is gonna be losing money if they keep screwing up and sending $140 dollar lockets to people for free. So my mom gets to call 'em and chew 'em out AGAIN. I don't think any of us will ever be purchasing things from Sears.com again.
