The Bottom Line Great for simple presentation of your pictures, but if you want something elaborate, the tutorial is not very useful.

I discovered Picture Trail by clicking on a banner at another website. (Sometimes one of those things actually catch my eye) Since my sister had recently gotten married, and not all of our family and friends could attend, I decided this was a great way to share the memories.
It was pretty self explanatory, and easy to get them on the site. There is an interactive tutorial explaining step by step how to do this. I simply scanned the photos and uploaded them from my computer. Pictures can also be e-mailed to your inbox on the Picture trail server, or transferred directly from a photo processing website.
After creating 2 simple photo albums, I decided I wanted to "dress up" my pictures and create pretty albums like the many examples that are shown on the site. I had a hard time finding instructions for those features, and I never did find out how to achieve most of the effects I wanted to and I really don't have the time to spend looking for how to do this.
One option Picture Trail offers is to require a password to view your albums. I chose to do this, but I have since decided not to for the convenience of my friends and family trying to view the pictures. I could find nothing in the tutorial to do this, so I had to transfer all of my pictures to new albums without passwords.
I sell on online auctions now and then and I found Picture Trail useful for additional pictures of items on sites that had a limit to the number of pictures that could be put on. I added a link to the bottom of the auction that would take them to more pictures that I couldn't fit into the auction page.
I had no complaints from anyone about not being able to get in and view the photos (other than forgetting the password). I e-mailed everyone a link they could click on and it worked for everyone of my friends and family around the country.
There are contests for those of you who take really good pictures. I haven't entered any of these as I am lucky not to have my thumb in half of my pictures. I have, however, looked at the winning pictures from time to time and I find some neat ideas here. There is a Public Gallery that is coming soon for those who would like to share their pictures with whoever would like to see them.
Some of the other features Picture Trail offers are music for your albums, ability to send digital postcards, and camera reviews. New features are regularly added.
Picturetrail is a great site for those who just want their pictures available for viewing. For those who want something a little more fancy, be prepared to spend some time looking for how to do it.
