| paradoxsm's Full Review: Daisy Technology DIVA MP3 Players MP3064VP |
If you want a simple no fuss mp3 player and have a Compactflash reader then look no further.
The internal USB is a bit of a pain to use and i'll get to that shortly.
Pros:
Simple and just the right size.
Takes AA instead of AAA batteries (good life)
Loud, clear hitting sound.
Internals are very well constructed.
Fantastic support unlike EVERY other "upgradeable" player.
Cons:
Cheap casing with buttons feel like they will break
USB and hopeless software
Earlier firmwares have some problems
Overall a good cheap solid enough player for the price.
and really owns itself when you have a CF card reader.
Flash the card and drop it in.
The USB is a pain,
on Windblows 98 it was just buggy and kept crashing.
on my new USB 2.0 machine it just started playing when I plugged it in. it took a driver update to correct this GRRR
The supplied software is crap, cheap-o-ware.
Sound, clear lound and crisp with a wee bit of "flanging turkeys" but not too bad.
Support, SUPER! a whole list of firmwares tyou can even CHOOSE from. a really customisable unit even parts for linux, read below for what might be MOD support
Units reviewed, 32 MB one. 2 weird "screenless" ones
one is a weird one with no internal memory (4 MB actually for some unknown reason) and no display screen, and simplified controls with no eq, voice, menus due to no screen, no voice recording (though all the parts are there, just no actual support in the firmware)
I got two of these weird things., I think they were used as the original tech demo's. They both play 5 mods, yes MODS on start-up with no CF card inserted. they had wires attached to the battery clips.
both had the hold switches came "off the rails" and were marked "faulty, no go hence the $2 purchase" though realigining the case certainly solved them. might be a thing to watch in the real models.
