The Condado Plaza is a lousy choice!

Pros: $10 self-parking was reasonable.
Cons: Room, rate and service were uniformly terrible.
The Bottom Line: Stay away as it's a very crummy and poorly run hotel. Check out some B&Bs in San Juan instead.

My well-traveled fiancee and I stayed there for 1 night in Jan., 2003 after a cruise as San Juan hotel rates were all quite high and this looked like the best choice, which ran us about $250 for a "superior room" with balcony facing the inland lagoon. It was a big disappointment worth maybe $l00, tops.
Despite no line, we waited for 1/2 hour-plus to check in as the clerk yakked that long with the one customer ahead of us. There are two towers, one on the oceanfront side of Ashford Avenue and the other on the inland, lagoon side. Half of all rooms just face the other tower 100 feet away. Ours faced the lagoon and required passing through their very noisy, crowded and low-roller type casino. On getting there, it took over 1/2 hour more and several calls to finally get our bags. It took even more calls to the so-called concierge to get an answer about a dinner reservation at El Convento and, after nearly an hour, it never materialized.
The room was not superior, but a dump. The furniture and woodwork were all old, very worn and banged up. The carpeting and upholstery were all dirty and stained. Room and bath were average size but bath fixtures leaked. It seems the oceanside tower may have been renovated a couple years ago, but not the other. But for being tired and facing only a one-night stay, we would have walked out.
We had no intention of eating there and didn't. Despite its oceanfront location, there is no beach at all--only a small pool area. Self-parking in the main tower at only $10/night was the only good feature. But room, service and value were all very poor. I saw just a case of profound neglect and indifference by management and would give this and other Wyndham-run properties a wide berth.
