Protect yourself! by Suzer | Mar 06 '04 Life is not as it was when our parents were kids. We must protect ourselves, and use caution in what we do, where we go. I am divorced, and my grown sons are on their own. I feel much more secure carrying pepper spray on my keyring. As a matter of ...Return to opinion

Suzy! Nice seeing you at todays Meet & Greet at Dave & Busters!
Pepper spray does lose its potentcy after a period of time this is why you need to replace your pepper spray once a year.
Always walk with your pepper spray with your thumb on the trigger. Also, walk confidently and surely. Muggers do not want to mess with people who look fearless or very confident.

Great info (Reply to this comment)

I strongly encourage my own mom to carry a compact .45 and though she still doesn't, at least I can get her out to the range every now and then. Personally I am a strong believer in more lethal than less, but these items have there place certainly. Don't forget with pepper spray, spray till its gone, don't use bursting shots as you are much more likely miss. The site seems well maintained. Great review!

Bonnie, I think it may be that it can evaporate. I sure wouldn't want to be in a position where I needed to use it and it was empty!

I have pepper spray and had no idea it needs to be discarded after one year. I will have to look for the directions and see if they explain the reasoning behind this additional expense.
