| nwinston's Full Review: Audiovox CDM4000 |
I'm not a power wireless phone user. As a matter
of fact, I go weeks without using one. After having
children, I got one for my security blankie. It allows
me to leave the house, knowing that a sitter can reach
me while I'm away. It's also nice to get road service
if I break down with the kids in the car. A roadside
hike with an infant and toddler in tow isn't appealing
to me.
For those reasons, I got wireless phone service.
When my AT&T service forced a change on me, I went
to a local dealer and ended up with Verizon as my
provider. They cover the areas I need with the
least cost. As a bonus, I got the Audiovox CDM4000
phone free. I didn't research the different models
since this was a freebie, but I'm happy with what
this phone offers me.
Features:
o 800 Mhz CDMA technology
o Lightweight - only 4.5 oz
o Phonebook has 99 alpha entries
o 15 ringer options
o Voice mail - messages are taken when the phone is off
o Talk time up to 190 min. in digital mode
o Caller id
o Text messaging
o Switches from digital to analog if digital service is
unavailable
The truth is that lots of these options aren't
critical to me. The digital to analog is a great
feature for me though because as we go over the
coastal mountain range to the beach, many areas don't
have digital service. For safety's sake when driving,
I love having the phone switch to analog when necessary.
The long battery life is great too. I recharge this
phone much less often than I did my prehistoric analog
phone.
Most newer phones have the other features that
this one does. The real differentiator for me is
the dual digital/analog functionality. But the 15
phone tones are fun to play with too!
The only problem I've had with this phone was
in using the car charger unit. I had no trouble
with the desk charger which came with the phone.
But whenever we tried to use the auto charger
which plugs into the cigarette lighter, we got an
"Error 12". According to customer service at
Audiovox, lots of the charger units just don't work
with these phones. They suggested getting a new
one so we ordered one from accessories4sale dot com
for this phone (item # AUD4000CLA) for $4.99 and
it works perfectly. In all other respects, the
phone works great.
Since I only turn my phone on when my children
are with someone other than me or my husband, it's
almost impossible for anyone to call me on it. But
don't worry, I'll call you!
