| bri25sfo's Full Review: Toshiba Satellite P25-S507 (PSP20U-00VY3V) PC Note... |
What can I say? The Toshiba P-25 series is such a value that it got me to switch from the Macintosh (where I'd been a loyal user since the mid 1990s). With the P25 series, you get a lot more than you paid for. . . a long list of great software and hardware, with an impact on your wallet far less dramatic than you'd expect. If you're looking for a powerful laptop with desktop-class performance, look no further. March down to your local dealer or go online and seek out the great deals to be had on this fabulous computer!
This computer comes with a huge number of bonuses. The screen is 17", bright and beautiful with more clarity than the competing HP zx7000 series. The included DVD-RW drive allows you to read and write and REWRITE DVDs (like a very, very large floppy disk). The Harman/Kardon speakers are fantastic for such a small surface area. The DVD playback is flawless and beautiful on the crisp screen. The hyperthreaded Pentium 4 on this system tears through even the toughest applications with ease -- Excel spreadsheets on this screen with this chip are an absolute joy compared to standard 15 or 14 inch screens. The included software is decent and includes Microsoft Works. The Windows MCE is really XP Professional with the addition of Media Center capabilities.
Basically, when you buy this laptop, be prepared to get a monster -- fast, powerful, with a beautiful screen. Oh, and did I mention the screen? ;-)
This computer has very few cons. The weight and physical heft of this machine means it's more a portable "desktop" than a laptop for use on a tight plane -- though as a road warrior myself, I am willing to trade off "small size" for power and the screen -- and have used it on a plane. The video RAM is also "only" 32 MBs, which means that the cutting-edge games might have some problems. This is mitigated by the 64 MB version being sold today. As the owner of a 32 MB version, I have to say that there are no applications I've thrown at this machine that it hasn't handled beautifully -- including WarCraft III, a very demanding game.
