| r80gs's Full Review: Canon i 850 Ink-jet Printer |
This is what happened. I went to Fry's Electronics in Irving,Tx. looking to replace my Epson.
The one I had in mind was a HP. HP printers are so quiet but the cartridges are too expensive. I'll give you a source on Ebay that I have used for over 2 years later in the review.
The Canon i850 was demonstrated to me by the salesman and I was amazed at the color picture he printed for 2 reasons (1) speed and (2) quality. The reason the quality is so great is due to the new MICROFINE DROPLET technolgy.
I was mainly looking for a printer that could quickly print grey scale drafts for my ebay sales invoices and postage (using stamps.com). This Canon can whip them out without even breaking a sweat.
I did have lots of fun printing color pictures and impressing everyone, especially when printed on laser and semi-glossy paper. The ink is like $10+ per cartridge but I found an ebay seller that ships them FAST and CHEAP and the quality is the same as new! His ID is "firstinks" and the set that my printer uses is BCI-3e. He sells all 4 color & b/w cartridges for under $7.00 (THE WHOLE SET!) as of this writing.
I tried getting another brand from a different seller (which was a little cheaper) but they were really bad quality. I'm sticking with "firstinks"
Now here are the other features I like. You can set the printer for fast, or a little less fast but a whole lot more quiet although the fast mode isn't noisy especially compared to my old epson. If you like paying top dollar for ink, get a LEXMARK (never again!).
Another thing I like about this printer is that it NEVER jams. It's like the printer knows the paper is crooked and keeps readjusting until it decides the paper is now straight. Also it has a "sleep" mode so that it automatically wakes up when you hit print but goes to sleep after not being used for a certain time period which saves power.
Also you can set it to print an image on 9 sheets of paper, then tape them all together to make one big poster.
I paid $149.95 and this is the best printer I've ever owned. I'd highly recommend it!
