Epinions - A site well worth reviewing

The Bottom Line The upshot of the argument is that Epinions provides a great forum for learning about new products and services.

What I don’t understand is why there are so many negative opinions about Epinions. I think that Epinions is an amazing service. Where else to get to air your views about products and services. In addition to reading some really excellent reviews you get paid for the services as well.

What I hear all the time about Epinions users is they get a measly couple of cents per review. Let me pose a question to these users. Do you know of another site that pays you to review products and services? I think not.

Let me ask you another question. Do you remember the review you wrote the first time you joined Epinions? Please compare this review with one of the recent ones that you have written. I think you’ll find there has been a drastic change in your writing ability. And you know where this comes from, it comes from reading other peoples review’s.

Okay, let’s see where we stand now. Epinions allows:

1. You get to learn about amazing products and services, ones that you are interested in reading about.
2. You to get paid to write reviews on products and services that you have used.
3. Your writing and linguistic ability to flourish as you read other peoples reviews.
4. You get to make friends through the Web of Trust (WOT).

Yes there are a couple of problems with the new Epinions site. For one it is not as easily approachable as the previous site but in all due respect the site is a lot cleaner and visually looks a lot better than before. Also, the money that you earn for the review submitted does not get updated immediately. This was a nice feature on the previous site. It was pretty cool to watch the tally of the cents go up as the review was getting read by other users. They should really think about bringing this feature back.

Now to the dreaded Web of Trust (WOT).

People look at the WOT in many different ways. Personally I look at it this way. I get to add people to my web of trust whom I admire in their eloquence and the writing style. I trust these people. If I’m going to buy a VCR or DVD player first I’m going to see if Mr. X or Mrs. Y who are in my WOT have written a review on the subject. To be honest l will believe them over the salesperson trying to sell me the product. Why? Because there’s no bias involved. They’ve tried the product will give me the low-down - good or bad. Where exactly do I lose by having a WOT? If I steer clear of the politics involved surrounding the WOT, I can begin to see the fundamentals of why the WOT was initiated in the first place.

OK so I have aired a little bit of my own dirty laundry along with my review, but that is not to say that I’m not happy with Epinions and the overall service that they provide. Don't be so harsh with Epinions, TRUST ME, you will be lost without them.
