Like to play games? Like to play them online with other people? If you answered yes to either question then youre gonna love Pogo!
Ive been a member of Pogo for about three years now and I still visit almost daily.
Pogo is a free service that offers a ton of games to its members. You will find card games, sports games, casino type games, simulation games and arcade type games. Almost all games at Pogo reward youre good game play with tokens. Tokens are Pogo currency redeemable for chances at drawings. The drawings are typically for cash that are held weekly and monthly. Pogo also puts together a prize package like a home theatre package to be drawn every couple of months. Not a bad deal just for playing games for free!!
A lot of the games on Pogo will reward you with tokens via a jackpot spinner. If you reach a certain goal in a game then you get a chance to win an instant prize from the jackpot spinner. You can win anywhere from five dollars up to the progressive jackpot amount which goes all the way up to $5000! Typically a jackpot spin will yield bonus tokens but you can also win other things such as screensavers, wallpaper, electronics, Pogo merchandise, etc
.
Almost all games offer a chat window where you can see all the members that are currently in that room and you can talk to them if you want. If someone is annoying you, there is a mute button. If someone is getting downright rude then you can also click on the report button and complain to Pogo about them. If you right click on anyones name (including yourself) then you can see that persons profile. A profile will show that users personal info (if they choose to show it), lifetime stats of the particular game you are in, what prizes they have won and how many tokens they have accumulated and their badge collection.
As I mentioned earlier, Pogo is a free service but for a few extra perks you can become a Club Pogo member. A Club Pogo member will get certain benefits such as being the first to play any new games that Pogo offers, double jackpot payoffs and the ability to earn badges! Badges are little icons that display next to your name. Every week Pogo will start a new challenge and if you are able to meet that challenge, you will be rewarded with a badge. A challenge can be something like winning 100 games of solitaire in one week. Ive found that people go crazy over these badges!! When a new challenge is announced, people flock to that game to try and get their badge as quickly as possible! Its fun to earn them and show them off to those who dont have them! Again, this is only available to Club Pogo members and does not apply to AOL members. The price of Club Pogo membership is $4.99/month.
As well as having great games, the site is really put together well. Its easy on the eyes and navigation is a breeze. You can use a buddy list if youd like to keep track of your friends on Pogo. The buddy list will let you know if your friend is on-line and what room theyre in. When you become a member you will also receive a mailbox. You can leave mail for your friends and you will also receive crucial notices from Pogo.
I think the main reason I keep coming back to Pogo after all these years is that they are constantly improving their site. Games are constantly being added to Pogo and even the old worn out games are given new life by updating the graphics and game play. For example: The latest game on Pogo currently is World Solitaire. This is the same as the original First Class Solitaire only the graphics have been updated and theyve added some new elements to game play to keep interest higher. Pogo will also list on the home page what to expect in the near future as far as new games are concerned. Currently, the next addition will be a Mahjong game (cant wait)!
I dont want to list all of the games in this review (way too many to list) but I will mention a few of my favorites.
World Solitaire: Klondike solitaire with bonus cards. Use the bonus cards to earn points. Each win will get your closer to your destination that is you choose from a world map. Every time you land in your destination you get more stamps in your passport book. Fill the passport with stamps and move on to the next level!
Pop Fu: Arrange colored balloons by popping them so that there are no more left. Clear the board five time and move on to the speed round. You have sixty seconds to clear five sets of balloons. If you do, you get bonus tokens and a jackpot spin. Highly addictive!!!
Tri Peaks Solitaire: Arrange the cards in numeric order until there are no more cards on the board. Each time you clear the board your little Indiana Jones type character moves a little closer to the big treasure!! Dont clear the board and watch your character fall down a trap door and get burned to ash!! Make it to the big treasure for lots of tokens and a jackpot spin!
Dice Derby: This one is a lot like Yahtzee. You get to roll five dice for three rolls. After each roll, keep the dice you want and roll the rest. The better hand you make the faster you car will go! After six rounds of rolling, the best roller wins the race and gets a chance at the jackpot spinner!
These are just a few of the games that I find myself playing quite often. There are a lot more games on Pogo and I would love to discuss them all but that would just take way too long.
All in all
I really like Pogo. Ive made a lot of friends over the years and still enjoy playing the games they have to offer. I would certainly recommend Pogo to anyone who likes to play games.
