| MrEricSir's Full Review: ATI Radeon 64MB DDR |
For a home graphics card, this card is very, very fast. It doesn't matter how high you crank the resolution on this baby, it won't slow down (much.) It's also got one of the best DVD decoders on the market.
For those of you who don't know, a graphics card like the Radeon is the computer component that displays graphics on your monitor. Like most new cards, the Radeon is designed for 3d graphics in most newer computer games.
The Radeon 64 uses ATI's Radeon graphics processor, and has 64 megs of memory (as the name suggests.) The Radeon 32 only has half as much memory, and has a slower processor. This board is a serious competitor to NVidea's graphics card, the GeForce 2 (and maybe even the GeForce 3.)
I was suspicious of this card at first -- I've had ATI cards in the past, and they never worked properly with the games I played. ATI has come a long way, but even today their cards won't work with those old games. However, it does work great with the new ones.
In short, if you do a lot of legacy (classic) gaming (esp. games with EGA graphics) you should avoid this card. If you're into new games, this card is absolutely awesome.
If you do buy this card, you can get it for under $200 if you shop around -- that's less than half the price that Epinions seems to think it should cost.
