I needed a book. None of the local giants like Barnes & Noble had it in stock. I needed it fast. So, I looked it up here on Epinions then clicked through to the Walmart.com link. They weren't the cheapest, but they were the name I recognized and I had bought DVDs from them before with problems at all.
The site is an easy-on-the-eyes plain white background with a nice yellow link box to the left and pictures of specials in the center. You have the option to search for a specific item using their search box at the top, or click any number of tabs and browse a category. They carry everything from flowers to computers. The book I wanted came up very easy.
Like I said, the price wasn't the lowest I could have bought it for, but it wasn't the highest either. It was a reasonable middle-of-road. You kind of expect Walmart to always be lowest.. they aren't. If you have time, do shop around.
Adding the book to my shopping cart was easy. If you're new to the site you will be prompted to fill out a profile. They do store all your information to make it easier for you to order next time.. this includes your CC number.
Now, I was a bit miffed at them at first when I went to use my debit card. It popped up some Verisign dealie that was annoying and asked for some info I had already typed in, then said it couldn't verify it and to call my bank. Grrrr. So, I had to use my MasterCard instead. That irked me because it just galls me to have to pay interest on something like a damn book, but oh well. I wanted it now, so it was my choice after all. Still... yanno?
The first time I ordered from them over a year ago was a hard to find DVD, and it arrived within 4 days. That was completely acceptable to me. The shipping I believe on that was only like 2 bucks. This time I opted for priority mail and that shipping charge jumped from just under $3 to over $8. That's quite a hike. But again.. my choice. I went with it. Before completing the transaction and actually charging my card, it did give me the info that this book takes one day to process the order, then it will ship and arrive within 2-3 days.
After completing the order I received a confirmation via email immediately. They then emailed me again when it shipped, and gave me a link where I could track the progress of my order. I know some on-line vendors send a link that never works, but this one was fine.
The book actually arrived on the second business day after placing the order, which was one day faster than their best case estimate. This, of course, pleased me very much.
Everything I've ordered from them has come well packaged and undamaged, and in a reasonable time period.
I've been lucky enough to not have had to deal with customer service, so I can't comment on their competancy. This was I believe my 5th order through their website with zero problems ever. A 100% fulfillment ratio is just pretty damn good.
I do recommend walmart.com, but also have to warn you again not assume they are the lowest price on everything. It's always a good idea to check around and compare... but if I'm in a rush I have no qualms about ordering from them.
