Printer Info:
This pinter is a simple home networking printer with built in wired and wireless capability, fax, scanner, copier, and comes with a built in color LCD adjustable display. I can confirm you get up to 4800x1200 optimized dpi or optional 6-ink color (nice!!) Up to 19,200 dpi enhanced, 48bit color ~ depending on your system. You can view and print photos without a pc (another plus! ~ LCD display on printer). It is not too bulky so you can place on your desk without it being an eye-sore. It doesn't hold as much paper as I would like for printing massive amounts of documents but the features outweigh that minor flaw. Other impressive features in my opinion are:
-quick color faxing and copying
-wake-up email - no PC required
-print up to 21 pages per minute, 14 in color (my favorite)
-print frame by frame sequences from digital video clips
-print and copy photos with or without borders
-scan photos/and or documents
-dual memory card slots (another plus in my book)
-reduce & enlarge 25-400%; copy up to 50 copies
-optional two sided printing accessory available (extra $)
My experience:
I bought this printer and ran into immediate issues with the software but there are work arounds. Im currently running this printer on a wireless G network with multiple devices and if you can deal with the software issues, its great. HP is currently producing documentation to fix all the software/hardware issues out there according to tech support.
Fixes that worked for me:
XP problem and fix - I installed the CD, and it recognized the printer on the network but kept giving me the following error "hpzgat01.exe -gate cue -run hpzmsi01.exe" error. This error is due to a registry permissions issue. If you are not familiar with the registry, I would wait and talk with an HP rep. Otherwise, you have to right-click on the following registry key "Hkey_local_machine_software_Lead Technologies, Inc. click permissions and verify that systems has FC and R checked under allow option. Then click advanced and verify "inherit from parent ..." is checked. Do the same for the HP key. Then re-run the software and it should work. It did for me!
Windows 2000 freeze issue - This software does not like to run under heavy program usage so you have to kill all services besides neccessary ones and then run the software. It installs just fine when running by itself. If needed you can copy your Hkey_local_machines_software_run directory to your c: drive, delete it, reboot and then install software then re-import your registry key back to the registry.
Also, I had HP send me another CD via FedEx on their expense since I was having so many issues. I recommend doing this if you have no success with the software. As far as hardware, I didn't have any issues. HP informed me that some of the printers were shipping with "bad" CD's.
Additional info:
Ink will run you around $30. plus dollars which is about average for this type of printer. I performed a test scan on a colorful picture and the print quality was nice. For this price and features, you are not going to find another printer that can top this one when comparing ALL the capabilities. Im sure this will change in 30 days but for now, I recommend this printer if all the options it offers accommodates your needs.
