Step Number Two: Skin Prep

Before applying foundation make sure your skin is cleansed. Make sure to wash your face with a gentle cleanser. Follow with a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 or an oil-free lotion (SPF 15) for daytime skin. At night use a lightweight primer before applying makeup if your skin is oily. If you have dry skin you can apply a cream or balm.

Step Number Three: Tools

With the foundation you can use a wedge-shaped sponge or your fingertips (please make sure they are clean). Never use a sea sponge because it will absorb the foundation. You can purchase cheap sponges at any drugstore.

Step Four Application:

When applying foundation remember you don't have to do the whole face. You can spot treat blemishes and wrinkles with a heavy duty foundation:

Stick Foundation. It's neat, portable and gives substantial allover cover. Stick Foundations can also double has a concealer. New oil-free formulas mean all skin types can find a good match.

How to apply:

* For maximum coverage draw streaks on your face, like war paint, then blend with fingertips. If you want to go sheerer then blend with a sponge (damp for oil-free makeup and dry for the rest). This is only if you want a smooth base. If you are skin is uneven just apply to those areas and blend with your sponge or fingers. If you have a slight blemish. You should apply your foundation with a small brush in that area alone (it will double has a concealer). Always begin in the middle of your face and move outward. Make sure to blend in a circular motion and apply with a light hand.

Liquid Foundation: Big advantage makeup for all skin types. It has the most shade choices, so you will get a more foolproof skin match. Easy to blend with a sponge or fingertips.

How to Apply:

* If you want full coverage and an even skin tone. Apply foundation to the center of cheeks and forehead and blend toward the edge of your face to assure even coverage. Do not apply to eyelids and under eyes when you have already applied concealer. Start out with less foundation and apply more if needed. For a sheer coverage of liquid foundation. Mix it with an oil-free lotion and apply to problem areas only. You can just spot treat dark spots and blemishes. For more coverage (and for oil-free) use fingertips; for less coverage use a sponge. Pay close attention to the hairline and jaw so you don't look like your wearing a mask. If you are wearing full coverage make sure to extend the foundation to your chin and blend downward. If you need more coverage you can apply concealer to dark areas or red/blemsih spots.

Wet/Dry
Also called dual finish powder, this is a combination of foundation and powder (sometimes concealer). Most can be applied either dry (like a powder) or with a damp sponge. It is a great alternative to water based liquids for oily skin. This is easy to carry and you can add more during the day without getting gunk buildup.

How to Apply:

This modern makeup gives moderate coverage. It can be used as a concealer and it goes on with a sponge so fingers don't get messy. To apply has a concealer use a small brush and apply to the affected area. For a sheer effect, dampen sponge; for a heavier coverage or trouble-spot camouflage; dab on with a dry sponge. Apply starting at the center of your forehead and blend. This can also be used has a powder. You can apply with a powder brush (only if you are using it has a powder). Make sure to pay attention to your nose. Sometimes people apply too much in this area. Please apply with a light touch.

Tinted Moisturizer:
The sheerest of all foundations. It contains moisturizers and color in one. It is perfect for women who do not require a lot of coverage. It also a perfect alternative to heavy foundation in the summer time. Women with smooth and clear skin should wear tinted. It only adds a hint of color. If you want to hide a blemish use concealer or foundation in that area.

How to Apply:
You can use this allover the face. Most come with sun protection. If they do not please apply sunscreen. Put on tinted moisturizer and start in the center. Work in sections, forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. Make sure to check your jawbone and hairline.

Step Five: Take it all away

Last step is removing all of your foundation at the end of the night. You can choose to use a makeup remover and cleanser. Sometimes you need to do both to remove all the dirt and makeup.

Here a few makeup removers to try:

Makeup Remover:

Estee Lauder's Take it all away
Pond's Cleansing and Makeup Remover Towelettes
Oil Of Olay Cleansing Cloths
Lorac Oil Free Makeup Remover
Calvin Klein Makeup Remover

You can purchase Ponds and Oil of Olay at any drugstore
Lorac, Calvin Klien and Estee Lauder can be purchased at any department store or online at www.sephora.com and www.esteelauder.com

Step Six: Tips

* Stick with yellow based foundation. Even if your skin has pink or red in it. The yellow tone will help to neutralize it. Remember color should come from blush and lips not foundation.

* The goal is to match the color with your skin. How can tell you if that color is right for you? Once the foundation has been blended in, it should disappear into the skin. Always test it on your face instead of your hands. The surest color test is to see it in the daylight.

* If you are not sure of your color purchase your foundation at a department store.

* After moisturizing, dab a dot of foundation (problem areas only). The dot should be no bigger then a dime. Remember to start off with less. If you need to apply more then do it later on.

* If you are looking to even out your skin tone. Try from the Body Shop something called prebase. It will help to even out skin tone. You can also try new from Avon. This new product called Pore-fection will help control shine and reduce englared pores. It should be applied before foundation. Also you can try a makeup primer for dry skin. It is called Velet Veil from Cat Cosmetics. This is an excellent makeup primer, it will make your makeup last for hours and keep it looking great.
You can purchase this online at www.catcosmetics.com and Avon online at www.avon.com
and The Body Shop at any Body Shop store.

* If you want to brighten your foundation. Try the new Skinlights by Revlon. You can blend them together with your foundation. It will help illuminate your skin.

SKIN: ten tricks for a perfect finish

1) For a finished yet dewy look: After applying foundation and powder, moisten a cotton pad in astringent and lightly press it over your face. The astringent takes away the opaqueness of the powder, leaving behind radiant but not naked skin

2) For pressed powder that goes on like foundation, moisten the puff with a little toner. It will make the powder go on sheerly and so flawless that no one will know you're wearing foundation.

3) For foundation that looks invisible, use an application technique called stippling: Put a little foundation on the corner of a makeup sponge and gently tap it onto skin: blend. It leaves a luminous finish

4) For the softest foundation finish: After you applied your makeup, use a cotton ball or tissue to gently buff your skin, removing some of the makeup.

5) For foundation that blends: Open your mouth as you apply it. This exposes more of the skin between the face and neck. reminding you to blend downward.

6) For perfect foundation: Keep Two shades handy. One for the winter and one for the summer.

7) For more mileage from your concealer: blend a little onto your lips or eyelids: it works as a makeup base that helps color last longer. Another trick: Apply light shade onto your brow bone and you got yourself a highlighter.

8) For the most natural concealer: apply it over your foundation, not under it, dotting it on just where you need it. If you put concealer on first, your foundation can actually remove it.

9) For a lightweight concealer substitute: Blend on a little cream-to-powder foundation in areas where you don't need heavy concealer coverage. You will even out your skin tone and get a matte finish

10) For a dewy look Fast: after applying moisturizer and foundation to your face, powder your T-zone only. Your cheeks( the only place you really want to be dewy) will look fresh and shiny......You can also try a gel Bronzer......They are very light and give a slight tan look
