Pros: Solid protection, good looks. The best insurance I have found for a PDA.
Cons: Bulkier than a 'naked' PDA. PDA must be removed to use docking station.
The Bottom Line: This is managing to protect a PDA from my clumsiness. Great insurance.

| fritz_t_coyote's Full Review: RhinoSkin 31606 PALM M515-505-500 ALUMINUM |
If you have followed my reviews, you may have noticed I tend to be hard on gadgets. Here, finally, I have an answer to an expensive problem: Smashed PDAs.
I am now on my 4th PDA, a Palm M515. I love it. And thanks to this hard case it has a chance to out-live its predecessors.
A strong case
The RhinoSkin is a tough hard aluminum box, with a dense foam lining, and a steel mounting rail for you PDA. The rail is hinged, and easily slides into the left-side 'cover' slot on the side of a Palm M500 series PDA.
Once in place, the PDA is easily removed so you can mount it into a docking station. Other reviewers see the ease of removal as a disadvantage, but I see it as a boon to anyone who uses a docking station everyday. Actually I use 2 docking stations, one at home, and one in the office, using my Palm to transport my contacts and appointments between systems.
When the case is closed, the PDA is Safe. The clamshell design has ridges that both strengthen the case, and make it easier to grip. The case is held close by a friction tab that can easily be adjusted, by bending it a little, to make it harder or easier to open.
Using the PDA
While in the case you can use the PDA normally, but if standing you should grip the PDA and the case to keep them together. As a southpaw I find it easy to hold the PDA and case in my right hand, and stylus away with my left. It seems that in this particular case it may be easier for left-handed people to use than for righties, which is pretty unusual.
You can use the IR sync while the PDA is in the (open) case, but connecting a charge/sync cable or using a docking station generally requires removing the PDA from the case.
Looks
A serious looking hunk of brushed aluminum alloy. Mine has picked up a couple of scratches, and looks even more substantial.
The looks also interests the folks at the metal detectors. I have picked up a few compliments from the security screeners at the airport.
Effectiveness
No more scratched screens, protection from bumps and scrapes. Mine has even protected the PDA from a fall from a table top to a hard floor.
It works.
